Keswick Canoe & Bushcraft — Attraction in Great Britain

My partner and I booked a 3 hour canoe session on Derwentwater and it was definitely an experience we won't forget for the rest of our lives! First of all the scenery is absolutely breathtaking but what really made the day was the guide with us (shaun I believe his name is, sorry my memory is terrible 🙈). He was incredible, so knowledgeable and he taught us both things about the environment and wildlife we will always remember. I really struggle with anxiety as well and I couldn't have felt more comfortable! We got out to a few islands and got to have a wander around as he told us about the history of the area and how to be responsible in nature. I have no doubt its people like Shaun who are the main drive behind the protection and preservation of the area and I genuinely wish there were more people in the world as caring about the area they're in as he is. We are total beginners to canoeing and have never done any watersports in the past and yet he got us out right into the middle of the Lake and on multiple islands, it was brilliant! We can't thank him & Keswick Canoe & Bushcraft enough for the day of a lifetime, I'd recommend a trip out with them...

From the moment we set off in our canoes to the last marshmallow and paddle in the lake, our day with Pete at Keswick Canoe and Bushcraft was fantastic. Pete’s expertise and passion for the great outdoors were evident in everything he said or did and his knowledge of the area and nature is second to none.

The beauty of the lake coupled with Pete’s guidance made for a perfect paddling experience. His tips on canoeing techniques helped us glide effortlessly through the water even when faced with a headwind returning from the island visits.

Pete’s bushcraft session was both educational and immensely enjoyable. We learned how to build shelters, start fires without matches, and cook marshmallows!! These survival skills, taught with patience and humor which was needed when dealing with a wild 9 year old!

We booked for the 3 hour canoe session. We thoroughly enjoyed an excellent canoeing expedition on Derwent Water, which included landing and exploring several of the islands. Pete is a fountain of knowledge, telling us about the local history, geography and natural history of the lake and area. He is clearly an enthusiastic and highly experienced instructor. His guidance on canoeing techniques and coaching ensured we felt relaxed and at ease in the canoe at all times, even when paddling into the headwind on our return to the boatshed. The session is suitable for those without canoeing experience and even those, like us, who are in the 'higher' age brackets.
