I’m reviewing my Parkrun experience rather than the park in general. There is parking arranged with the university but it’s not obvious what you need to do as there are no signs and no volunteers, at least not when I went.

You drive up to the barrier and press the button, doesn’t automatically open and tell them you are there for Parkrun. The car park is then further up to your right, however, more signs saying to use the right car park. Parked at in the large empty one on the left, fingers crossed on no ticket!

Due to be later than normal trying to find the way to the car park, another tourist and I had to work out the way to the start, luckily some builders pointed to us the right way.

After that plain sailing as we spotted the usual Parkrun volunteer vests.

The course is 3 laps, I followed a non Parkrun jogger on the last lap so ended up doing a bit extra 😂

The volunteers were all very friendly and cheering us on even slow coaches like me! At the end someone offered us a choice of sandwiches and bananas, a very nice touch!

Course itself has wide paths, watch out when your on the cycle lane at points. It’s fairly flat with some gentle inclines. It was fairly packed but I gather that’s normal...

Victoria Park in Leicester, England is a public park of 69 acres (279,000 m2). It is in the south-east, just outside the city centre, backing on to the University of Leicester and close to the Leicester railway station. The park was historically part of the South Fields of Leicester, and was used from 1806 to 1883 as a racecourse – a function that was then transferred to the purpose-built Leicester Racecourse in Oadby. It was opened as a park in 1882. A Victorian grandstand stood in the park until the mid-20th century, and was used as a pavilion after racing moved to Oadby. It was damaged by a German parachute bomb in 1940 and later demolished, with the new pavilion built on the same site and opened in 1958. Leicester Fosse (who later became Leicester City Football Club) played here on various occasions between 1884 and 1890.

A parkrun takes place in the park every Saturday morning at...
