Kabul Rose is a new spot for Afghani/Shinwari food, tucked away on Evington Rd. It’s a small place, but has a lot of promise.
The best thing about Kabul Rose is the ambiance. I loved the decor the lights are perfect for a nice dining vibe. The seating can feel a bit tight, whether you’re at a table or on the floor seating, but they’ve managed it quite well. The wall art, the cushions, and the way the tables are set up caught my eye. For ambiance, I’d easily give it a 10/10.
We ordered the authentic Kabuli Pilaw Shank (not the sizzler version), a large mixed grill platter, and my younger one had a kid's meal burger platter. We also tried some mocktails to get a feel for their full menu. The food overall was good, but I did feel like something was missing. The shank, which I’ve seen in videos where the meat just falls off easily, wasn’t quite like that both times I tried, the meat wasn’t as tender as expected. The mixed grill, though, looked great and tasted delicious. The mocktails could use some improvement not bad, but they need a bit more work to stand out. Also, the drink portions felt small, mostly because of too much ice. Either reduce the ice or use bigger glasses to make the £6 price feel more worth it.
Now, the service honestly, is not great. There were only four tables occupied and two staff members, but I had to call them over every time I needed something. No one was checking on us during the meal. I feel like there should be one person dedicated to service and another keeping an eye on the floor to make sure guests are looked after. If you have to call the waiters more than a couple of times, it takes away from the dining experience especially when it’s not even that busy.
Overall, Kabul Rose offers a very good and authentic Afghan food experience. The food quality is solid, and the ambiance is amazing, but they need to work on their service. They’re still new, so I’ll give them some time to iron things out. I do plan to visit again soon hopefully, they’ll impress me even...
Read moreAwful experience! During our recent family outing at KR for our celebration of Eid, which was meant to be a delightful experience for our group of ten, we encountered a series of disappointments that left us feeling unsatisfied. The food took an eternity to arrive, and when it finally did, it was not as we had ordered. Instead of the rice that I specifically requested to accompany my dish and to also add it had said it would be with our meals on the menu, I received chips—something I never wanted. They never prior had told us they had ran out also we had called them to confirm our booking an hour before and not had said anything then! And when our meal had come my mixed grill had chips. To add the portion sizes when other family memebers had main rice dishes were shockingly small as it seemed they had just gave what was at the end of the pot BURNT rice, and to make matters worse, after we learned that they had run out of rice entirely, after spending over £150 on our meals, the front man had given £4 discount offered for their mistakes felt more like an insult than an apology. Overall, it was a frustrating experience that left us feeling more robbed than rewarded. If i was you i would avoid this place not genuine people who care about business they are just thieves that...
Read moreWe recently visited Kabuli Rose and had a mixed experience. We tried their Kabuli Pulao priced at 3.75, which tasted fine, but the portion size was quite small for the price—definitely felt like it could’ve been more generous.
We also had the chicken tikka (Afghani-style). The flavor was average, not bad, but one thing that stood out—in a negative way—was the excess food coloring. After eating, our hands were noticeably stained, which was off-putting.
The lamb kurma was decent; however, while we noticed other guests were being served in the signature Kabuli-style pots, ours came in a regular bowl. This might’ve been because we went a bit late, but it still felt like a letdown.
Another point worth mentioning is that staff started cleaning the restaurant while we were still dining. It felt a bit rushed and took away from the overall dining experience. I understand it might've been due to the time, but it did affect the ambiance.
That said, the staff were polite and courteous throughout. However, I do feel they could improve on the overall service experience and consistency in presentation.
Overall, a 3-star experience—some good elements, but a few details that could be improved to make the visit feel more special and...
