On my travels to Leicester I usually go up and down on London Road and noticed Konak a couple of times. And decided I will give this Turkish restaurant a go. I went to Konak on a weekday afternoon.
Headed inside a friendly waiter (labelled him in a photo to this review) noticed and served me, I told I him was on my own and he took me to a table. Shortly afterwards he presented me with a menu in a booklet format. For starters I chose the Mixed Hot Meze, the drink a bottled Salgam and the main meal a Ribeye Steak (medium rare).
It took some time for my order to come through, and I believe there is a reason for this. When it did come through the starter the Mixed Hot Meze (or how I like to call it now, the Mixed Hot Meme) was near to lukewarm and somewhat disappointing. The Sucuk Izgara was like near edible salty leather (not in a good way), the Halloumi was like eating a soft rubber, the Sigara Boregi just ok but the Falafel was the best out of the four!
The price for the Mixed Hot Meze (£17.00) (Mixed ‘Hot’ Meme) is not worth it! In my opinion for what it’s worth it should have been priced about £10.
I did not drink all of the Salgam as it was a very Hot day (it was very spicy), and I reckon that drink will go very well during the winter cold days as an alternative to tea and coffee.
Onto the main dish, the Ribeye I believe was cooked from frozen. I reckon the chefs took it out of the freezer to thaw the meat. Which took the longest to come out, the middle part of the steak was ok but the edges were like chewing gum. (see photos of the chewed up ‘meat’ to this review) The white sauce that came with the steak tasted bland it had no taste in it. The only decent thing that came with the steak, was the chips. At this point I was not upset or disappointed with the steak, as I don’t usually eat steak on a regular basis. So I am not a Steak expert like Guga from Gugafoods (YouTube).
After this I went to the cashier to pay for the disappointing food (labelled him as The Attitude problem guy, see photo to this review), I think he knew that the food in Konak is below par, and he most certainly saw me spitting out the chewing gum texture of the disappointing steak. He asked how was the food? I replied I am not a steak expert and I don’t feel that I can say if the steak was good or not. He retorted to me saying that you should not of ordered it medium rare (in a very rude way). I was like staring at him and thinking to myself I have not made a negative reply about the place yet!.......................apart from this review.
After this I’ve read other reviews of Konak Leicester on Google maps thoroughly, and it turns out that there are reviews who have a negative experience with “dark browned skinned Indian guy” and I believe he is the same exact person, I’ve also had unpleasant experience with. (please read other reviews from Lilly Montrose, Tim King and AAA IXV)
In my opinion I think there are better menu items with Konak, if there are people who are reading this review. I would suggest to stay away from all of their steaks.
And lastly be very wary of The Attitude problem guy (the dark skinned indian guy with the silver...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Konak Restaurant and it was truly a remarkable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and excellent customer service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience.
Firstly, let's talk about the food. The Turkish cuisine served at Konak Restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was filled with authentic flavors and showcased the richness of Turkish culinary traditions. The menu offered a wide range of options, from succulent kebabs to flavorful mezes, all prepared with skill and expertise by the talented chefs. The presentation was elegant, and every bite felt like a journey through the vibrant streets of Istanbul. I highly recommend trying their lamb shish kebab and baklava for an unforgettable Turkish culinary experience - it's a true taste sensation!
The customer service at Konak Restaurant was truly outstanding. The staff members were knowledgeable about the menu and warmly guided us through the different options. They were attentive to our needs and promptly addressed any requests or inquiries we had. The genuine care and passion they exhibited towards the customers created a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel like part of the Konak family.
One minor suggestion I have to further enhance the dining experience would be to include some light Turkish music in the background. Since the restaurant has an open kitchen concept, occasional sounds from the cooking area and other customers can create a slightly busy ambience. Gentle Turkish music would not only help to eliminate any potential sound clutter but also add an authentic touch to the overall Turkish dining experience. It would create a pleasant atmosphere and enhance the cultural immersion for the diners.
Overall, my experience at Konak Restaurant was nothing short of brilliant. The food was of exceptional quality, the customer service was top-notch, and I left feeling satisfied and content. I wholeheartedly give Konak Restaurant a 10/10 rating, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic Turkish dining experience. Whether you are a fan of Turkish cuisine or simply looking for a memorable dining experience, Konak Restaurant is definitely the...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with the recent dining experience I had at your restaurant on November 3, 2023. I had made a reservation to celebrate a friend's birthday with a group of five, and what was supposed to be an enjoyable evening turned into an emotionally distressing experience.
Upon our arrival, we were informed that a table would be available at 6:00 PM. Unfortunately, due to traffic, two of our friends arrived slightly late, and we placed our food orders around 6:30 PM. We received our food promptly at 6:50 PM.
However, at 7:00 PM, a person who identified themselves as the manager of the restaurant approached our table and informed us that we would need to vacate the table by 7:10 PM, as another party had been scheduled for the same table. We acknowledged the situation but requested a reasonable amount of time to finish our meals, as we were in the midst of our dinner. To our shock and dismay, we were pressured to leave the table by 7:10 PM. The manager's attitude and approach were incredibly aggressive and lacked empathy.
One particularly distressing moment was when the manager suggested that if we couldn't finish our dinner in time, we should take it as a takeaway and finish it at home. This suggestion was not only insensitive but also inappropriate, especially considering we had a 2-year-old with us who was still eating.
This entire experience left us feeling like our patronage was not valued and that the establishment prioritized maximizing profit over the comfort and satisfaction of its guests. The manager's words and actions were unacceptable, and we felt that we were treated with a complete lack of courtesy and professionalism.
I believe that this situation could have been handled much differently and with more respect towards the guests. No customer should be subjected to such treatment in a restaurant.
I would appreciate it if you could investigate this incident and take appropriate measures to ensure that future guests do not have to endure such distressing experiences. I hope that you will address the issue of poor management and the manager's inappropriate...
