Not the best dining experience tbh. The young lady wasn't as friendly when placing my food order and the food itself is overpriced for what you get. The steak dish was already nearly £20 but in faint writing it says a sauce would be almost £3 more. Surely it should be included? The peppercorn sauce was so thin and the chips came on a ceramic bowl? To give the impression of a fuller plate, I don't think it's neccessary. Generally, this place is nice to have a few drinks, it's spacious and mostly well kept. They have a nice outside drinking area at the back but I feel they could offer better quality in their dishes. The other dish we ordered was the Scampi, could have done better with salad/presentation for the money you pay for these dishes. I would suggest all staff treat all patrons with in welcoming & friendly manner and make some adjustments to the presentation/ quality/ quantity of some dishes. Afterall, this is not a student pub with student prices.

One of the oldest and well liked of the city centre pubs. Visited by those attending the city's sporting teams and De Montfort Hall, as well as thirsty academics at the nearby Univeristy of Leicester, it is a spacious pub both inside and out. Having been coming here for 20 years there is always a friendly and well trained set of staff here as many generations of ownership have taken place. The current group are particularly good. The food here has improved very much in recent years and Sunday lunches especially are worth the visit. We had different meats and the vegan option and the elements were well appointed. The desserts also normal and vegan had exactly what one would expect in quality food. This pub very much has a finger on the oulse of a lot of beers and decent wines. The outside area is big and good in summer with small huts for groups. This pub is good for couples as well as small groups and comes well recommended.

This is our first visit and we truly enjoyed it! The location is perfect and there are paid parking lanes just outside the pub. Lovely interior and well organised areas to sit for a drink or eat food. On this visit we stayed inside but there's a lovely garden with heated huts! We ordered two chicken burgers that were juicy and a tasty chicken Caesar salad. Every Sunday they serve roasts, amongst regular meals, and children below 12 eat free. This is a lovely gesture and I applaud them for giving back to the local community.

Attend regularly, and went tonight for chicken and ham pie, and roasted vegetables with perfect crispy chips. The meat in the pie was excellent, very well seasoned and the pastry top golden and just puffy enough. I'd give this a 9, and is how all decent pub food should be.Perfectly priced at £7.95. Burgers are excellent too, as are the onion rings. The Marquis is nicely decorated and due to the input of some staff over the last year with good music tastes, the playlist features a mainly excellent non-mainstream eclectic seliction from the likes of the Smiths, the Specials, Pixies, classic soul and 60s psychedelia. Great! If they turned the lights down past 11pm about 20% and added a few candles it would be all the better, and further the pub's slightly alternative yet traditional pub atmosphere. Please do this! Staff clearly know what they are doing and are mostly friendly and this adds to the experience. Be nice if Everards brewed some tastier beers with bolder flavours - re Oakham ales, Castle Rock and Thornbridge. Some good guest ales and local cider though. Pub is open usefully late at weekends. If the lights were lower from 10.30pm ish, and after that time on fri and sat turned the music up 10%, I think it would be busy til 3am or as late as they liked, I'd certainly stay. A very very good pub,...

I visited yesterday evening to have a meal. After attending the regular COVID checks (the pub works on a first come first served basis), we were instructed by staff to go to the beer garden (open space) and wait at the table. We asked staff to move table, as ours was 1) in an inconvenient location 2) too small to have a meal and drinks 3) one of the two chairs was unstable and we were not close to any heaters 4) there was an empty larger booth right next to ours. We pointed this out to staff who said that they would have sanitised the larger booth first and then allowed us to move in. We also said that we would have been happy to wait for the table to be sanitised. While we were patiently waiting, a group (three men) entered the open space and took the booth without waiting for staff to sanitise it. When staff came and saw this did not ask the group to leave the table - the table needed to be sanitised (as it should have been done!). They just seated and had drinks. We pointed this out to staff, but we got completely ignored.

I had a word with another member of staff at the bar, who ignored us as well. It was an awful experience. Extremely disappointed for the lack of consideration and...
