Avoid at all costs - RUDE AND UNHELPFUL STAFF- myself and members of my family thought of taking the kids to a waterpark as a treat we normally go to other water parks likes splash ahoy in Barnsley or alphamere in Scarborough. We thought it we would try somewhere different for a change and saw this place online . We drove an hour to get here and at first everything is fine - my grandmother and my brother and myself worse cotton t shirts and I had regular swimming trunks on- upon walking into the “splash city “ or whatever it is they call the water park one of the staff members stood there said me “excuse me mate where do you think your going” I was a little confused and said to the water, with my little nephews? He said what materiel are the trunks and my t shirt - he then said the trunks are fine but i can’t wear the t shirt as it’s cotton and not classed as swim wear? I asked Politely what the issue was as I have never had this issue in any other water park and he said that it is there policy as clearly stated on their terms and conditions- and said I would need to take the t shirt off or buy one from the sports directs done the road …. He then called his manager over for me speak to with I tried to explain I need to swim worn a t shirt on as I have eczma on my chest I don’t feel comfortable exposing this and he said I can see what’s being sold on reception or walk down to sports direct- my cousin who was in s cotton t shirts but appropriate leggings went to look for a swim suit and had to pay 32 pounds for one!!!! Seems like a money making scheme to me- I politely aired my frustration on the matter to the lady sitting at the front desk and said I know this isn’t her fault but don’t understand how what shirt aware will affect my ability to swim or the safety of other she very rudely said “ IT IS OUR POLICY ITS ALL THROUGH A 3rd party company who operate out of Huddersfield leisure centre so we either take the shirts of for the men or buy new ones for the women or we don’t swim and can’t get a refund as stated in their terms and conditions- the lack of empathy and manners in that encounter caught me off guard guard - in the. End my grandmother had to sit on the said while the rest of the family was able to swim as 1 they didn’t have anything suitable to fit her or being sold in their shop 2 - even if they did they were very overpriced and 3 she isn’t able to walk down to sports direct- lost a lot of time in our session due to this and we witnessed other numerous people in our session experiencing the same thing - the only good thing about the place was the slides however with the awful customer service and ridiculous policy I would not advise anyone to waste their hard earned money here instead go to the other lovely water parks like splash ahoy in Barnsley or alphamere in Scarborough or sandcastle waterpark in Blackpool where the staff are all lovely and they don’t have such ridiculous policy’s.
Won’t be coming...

I was using the Stadium facility before they closed this centre down, when they closed this down they gave 4 days to cancel my memebrship, I instead did not cancel in this short time period and continued to use the Leisure Centre. After using the Leisure Centre paying only 4 pounds less than what I did for the premium memeberhsip I had previously that they automatically moved me from, I realised that this did not meet my expectations of what I had originally agreed to when starting my membership. The Leisure Centre is overcrowded and has poor facilities. Swimming here is difficult as their are classes on almost constantly so you end up in two small lanes that are overcrowded, the pool itself was unclean and always had an unpleasant smell. The rest of the facilities were also unclean, shower floors were always slimy and full of hair. The carpark was often full and the gym over crowded. The Leisure Centre and other facilities do not have the same facilities as the stadium had such as the spa area. I tried to explain this to KAL and that I believed the offer of services had drastically changed and that both their contract and my consumer rights should allow me to cancel my memebeship, they did not agree with this as I had not asked to do this within the 4 days they gave me. So I cancelled my direct debit and spent the next 2 months being bombarded with repeated emails about £15 late charges (3 in total charges) and threats of debt collection. They also reinstated my direct debit without my permission. I now have brought my account up to date and have to continue to make 4 months more of payments. I don't belive KAL have acted in good faith on the matter, and are disappointed in the way they have handled this (especially for a "charity") and I am unhappy that I have been threatened into paying for a service I no longer use or want or is even available. Their are plenty of better value fitness centre nearby that I would recommend above KAL. I have plenty of other things I could write as to why I stopped enjoying using KAL but I have written a long...
Read moreGyms clean and adequately air conditioned. Bad etiquette from some attendees e.g. Some of us only understand English, so would be nice to hear that language being spoken more by everyone who attend. Staff are welcoming, supportive and leave you to get on with your workouts. Not sure why some of the negative and one star remarks /comments tho, if you're going to go to public baths with untrained kids who should be potty trained and or think it's ok to defecate in the water then it's down to individuals' behaviours. The staff (who are not your mumannies) have a job to do with a duty of care and safety to the public (all attendees). so for hygiene reasons you Should be asked to get out of the water (at the very least) unless that's something you'd rather swim alongside. And if you've booked for an hour then don't be surprised if there's only 5 mins left after cleaning up and making it safe to get back into. The centre and it's system tries to accommodate numerous people every day, especially holidays and weekends, so the odd hiccup is and should be expected. Carparks can work out to be expensive, I am a victim of the expenses problems too but it's run by the council, so maybe let's take it up with them. I do have an axe to grind about the prices and variety of foodstuffs available not forgetting the price of healthy foods. Tho it's meant well, they're limited expensive healthy food and abundance of cheaper processed foods available... But that's a free market economy I guess, 'supply and demand'. I've got no actual quarms about our leisure centre at Huddersfield apart from what I've already said... Good job all around and it's better than nothing, so let's all support our local centres and staff positively or loose it for good, THEN where would we be? Thanks to all the staff, everyone who use and associate with hlc and KAL. Let's Keep up the good work together and positive vibes, so we can all benefit for years...
