Battersea Power Station — Attraction in London

I went with my family in the evening so the shops were closed. There are many prestigious brands here so you'd better have a bank balance to match if you plan on shopping here. However, we were there for the food only. There's a large choice of a variety of cuisines available but we ended up in Nandos because, in comparison to the majority of the eating places there, it was the cheapest.

The Power Station is big and a little intimidating, it wears its industrial past on its sleeve. Whilst I hate shopping complexes, this one has the redeeming feature of preserving a very important historical London landmark. Battersea Power Station had been derelict for decades but now its survival is assured for as long as people want to shop for overpriced rubbish in vacuous surroundings. It does have a cinema though, so it's got that going for it...

Im Südwesten Londons, eingebettet zwischen moderner Architektur, eleganten Neubauten und der imposanten Kulisse der ikonischen Battersea Power Station, liegt eine der neuesten U-Bahn-Stationen Londons. Die Battersea Power Station U-Bahn Station, eröffnet im September 2021 als Teil der Northern Line Extension.

Schon beim Ankommen merkt man, diese Station ist mehr als nur ein Verkehrsknotenpunkt - sie ist das Eingangstor zu einem ambitionierten städtebaulichen Projekt, das ein einst verfallenes Industrieareal in ein neues urbanes Zentrum verwandelt.

Die Station selbst ist lichtdurchflutet, großzügig, klar strukturiert mit modernen Materialien, viel Glas, Beton und einem Hauch futuristischer Eleganz. Alles wirkt neu, fast ungewohnt sauber für London. Die Rolltreppen führen hinab in weite, helle Hallen mit klarer Beschilderung und durchdachter Architektur. Der Bahnhof ist barrierefrei, durchgängig digital erschlossen und mit energiesparender LED-Beleuchtung ausgestattet.

Was ihn besonders macht ist der direkte Bezug zur Battersea Power Station, dem historischen Kohlekraftwerk mit den markanten weißen Schornsteinen, das einst halb London mit Strom versorgte und später durch das LP Cover von Pink Floyds „Animals“ Weltruhm erlangte. Die Station wurde so gebaut, dass sie sich nahtlos in das neue Battersea-Areal einfügt, das heute eine Mischung aus Wohnraum, Büros, Restaurants, Luxusgeschäften und Kulturstätten ist.

Draußen, nur wenige Schritte von der Station entfernt, steht sie dann - die restaurierte Power Station. Ein wuchtiger Koloss aus Backstein und Geschichte, heute ein Symbol für urbane Transformation.

Battersea Power Station Station ist damit nicht nur ein Verkehrspunkt, sondern ein Beispiel dafür, wie London Geschichte, Design und Zukunft in einem Ort vereinen kann und gleichzeitig einen einst vergessenen Stadtteil neu auflädt. Wortwörtlich!

Battersea Power Station is a stunning blend of historic architecture and modern lifestyle. The iconic building has been beautifully restored, with its industrial charm still intact. Inside, there’s a great mix of shops, restaurants, bars, and even a cinema, perfect for a day out.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t experience Lift 109 as it was closed, but it’s definitely something to come back for.
