Slightly misleading as it's sited within the gates of Addison school rather than in the green space known as Brook Green where the play park and tennis courts are. This farmers market is here every Saturday from 9.30 till 5pm and some stall owners travel for hours from Leicester, Cambridge and the home counties. There is a wide range of meat, fish, dairy, fruit + veg stands, specialist condiment and oil, cordials and liqueur sellers all with their unique branding, presentation and ways of sampling. Of particular note was the Ginger Gerbil stand where the invitation was to use it as a punch/ cocktail base or heat it up with hot water and lemon purely for medicinal purposes. I also made the olive oil outlet Manayi guy demonstrate how easy it was to carry the 5 liter can on it's one small plastic handle. The Jamaican Sauce company owner was delightfully saucy and if dipping bread sticks into different sauces were part of blind speed dating rituals he'd make a killing. I highly recommend his BBQ stout one. Anru lndian foods was the only business to have her 5 star hygiene rating board in full view. Very reassuring and the rest of the businesses inviting you to buy food to eat should follow suit. If you not only want to buy fresh food to eat or cook at home there are lots of hot & cold choices for a late breakfast or lunch. Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Italian, and French Crepes.
Well worth a visit particularly if the sun is shining. Any children with you can play on the interesting range of equipment behind the stalls. The circular tree seat and benches are all new additions since my children attended this school. I'm pleased to see this beacon education establishment monetizing it's potential. Full marks to their PTA and...
Read moreThis is a great little market, both for grabbing some breakfast or lunch or for finding good quality ingredients for home cooking. Despite Covid restrictions preventing tastings and seating for eating (which are normally highlights of any market!), it's still an enjoyable outing. In fact, outdoor shopping is a good option during Covid times. Do yourself a favour and find the beef relaxing in gravy in what looks like a paella pan, at a stand called Le Petit Moulin....
Read moreGreat coffee and a delicious french hot food stall. Looking forward to doming here every Saturday. A rather arrogant French cheese vendor. I bought twice from him and each time it felt like I need to beg him to tell me about his cheeses, sample are also not allowed. Don't think I'll be buying again from them. Very pleased with the Italian stall, on the contrary, - a lovely enthusiastic but no pushy seller who is happy to share the knowledge, gives samples...
