The fifth floor cafe sits on top of the luxury department store Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge, just across the road from the station serving up modern European cuisine from breakfast to dinner. The restaurant takes up most of the top floor at Harvey Nichols and is a very attractive large open plan dining area. The colour scheme is bright and fresh and there’s an outdoor terrace too. The ambience is chilled and there was a mix of customers ranging from young to old. The staff are wonderful; attentive and friendly. We never had an empty glass and had a great time with our server. We tried out the new vegan menu which was £23 for two courses or £27 for three. We started with the Coconut and pumpkin soup and the Egg-free omelette, spinach & late winter truffle. The soup was delicious, almost like a broth, packed full of flavour and a nice light start to the meal. The omelette was mind blowing – it had a texture just like an omelette and it was really tasty with the truffle flavour running through. For our mains we had the Fish ’n’ Chips: battered tofu wrapped in seaweed, minted peas & tartar sauce and the Coq au Vin: artichoke, chickpeas, red wine sauce, mushrooms, smoked tofu & mashed potatoes. The battered tofu was cooked perfectly, really crispy and the seaweed gave a fishy taste that was great. The coq au vin was warming and hearty and full of flavour, the smoked tofu was a great touch. Even though I was really excited about desert, when it came to it I’d eaten too much to try any! The choices were Coconut rice condé and a Chocolate cremeaux, and if they were as good as the food we had tried then we would not have been disappointed! Lovely atmosphere and service at the cafe and I really enjoyed the ingenuity of the vegan menu. A lot of effort had gone in to making a special menu for vegans and the effort paid off because everything tasted great.

I took the opportunity to visit the Harvey Nichols 5th Floor Bar while we awaited our reservation at the restaurant. Upon entering, I immediately sensed a delightful ambiance, complemented by the presence of well-trained staff. Our server, Mario, stood out with his exceptional attentiveness and knowledge. The bar's cocktail menu was truly outstanding, showcasing a variety of expertly crafted drinks. Each cocktail was a masterpiece, skillfully balanced and bursting with flavors that delighted my palate. It was evident that the mixologists took great pride in their creations, ensuring a memorable drinking experience. To accompany our beverages, we decided to sample some of the small plates from their menu. The food did not disappoint. Every dish displayed a meticulous attention to detail, both in presentation and taste. From savory bites to delectable culinary creations, the bar's menu catered to a wide range of preferences, leaving us thoroughly impressed. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend the Harvey Nichols 5th Floor Bar. Its welcoming ambiance, impeccable service, and exceptional cocktails make it an ideal spot for both pre-dinner drinks and small bites. Whether you're seeking a casual evening or a refined dining experience, this bar is sure to exceed your expectations. Please follow me on Instagram! You can find me at @doctorfoodielondon

WHAT HAVE HARVEY NICHOLS DONE TO THEIR FOOD HALL - THE HORROR... I fell in love with Harvey Nichols Food Hall well when I moved into Central London in 1994. It's been an institution for me for regular groceries but most importantly it became my Christmas Eve Tradition. Inviting friends to share a glass of champagne at the bar having made my food selections ready for collection when I eventually stumbled out of the door some hours later happy and sated. It had the best Butcher, Greengrocer, Fishmonger, Cheesemonger of any establishment in London and I'd include Borough Market in that, that was when it was a grown up traders food market (before it went to hell in a hand cart and became a marketeers wet dream). Unlike the cavernous Food Hall of it's neighbour Harrods this was intimate. Harrods was where the tourists went, HN was where the foodies would come. Every staff member had been there since I started coming. They were committed to the store and far more importantly they were committed to their customers. I had friends use the place as others would shop at Tesco (think Ab Fab). And yes, there were lots of expensive foods, but for your local grocery shop it would be no more expensive than buying free range organic at your local supermarket. I have raved and raved about this establishment for over 2 decades. It's service was second to none. As I've said I sat at the Champagne Bar entertaining friends on most Christmas Eve's meeting up with customers, who'd be collecting their regular fowl, bird or game every year since moving to London. It was the archetypal London Christmas and perfect in every way. I was always offered things to try I'd never heard of, tasted a variety of things before perfect selection, the Wine Shop had the most knowledgeable staff on all alcohol, not just wine. It really was the most special and unique department store Food Hall in the world. But over the last few years, it's been in steady decline, first the bakery disappeared, then the grocery section get reduced to nothing until this year, the most horrific of abominations, the entire Fresh Food department has gone. What's left is mass market Franchise food outlets - it is in essence a Food Court. Yes and no amount of poncing those two words up, is ever going to elevate an eatery from its connection to tacky food, for bored, palate less, hungry shoppers in a Shopping Centre in Slough. All this homogenisation has now turned a world beating foodie paradise into, I suppose, what the store has itself become (with HN stores now across the country) a slightly elevated Debenhams. A store full of concessions that does very little itself, other than rent out space to others. No place for the discerning anymore. A devastating and appalling piece of London vandalism that should never be supported. Time and time again the food hall managers have said there was the trade to support it, but why bother when you can drag stupid people in to buy poor food for much more money (and people actually queue for B&L an incomprehensible situation to me). So if you want places like this to remain unique, bastions of our fantastic city, don't shop here, make their money grabbing overlords find the stupid in other cities, use the Burger & Lobster, Yo Sushi, Zelman Meats, Bubblology in any of their high street outlets, just don't use these ones. Complain about the Food Hall's absence to the store manager every time you're in here. Tell your friends too, Tweet, Facebook, WhatsApp etc. the hell out it. I've said it about Fortnum and Mason's, Burlington Arcade and I'll do so again here, London institutions are ours, not their owners, the owner is just granted the honorary licence to be the establishments care-taker for a while, not it's destroyer. Let's see the fantastic food-hall and all it's amazing staff next year, you'll be better off for it, I'll be better off for it, but above all, London will be much, much better off for it. And that would definitely bring back a bit of Christmas Cheer and we should all be thankful for that.

Where to begin... Bought what was meant to be a brand new pair of trainers. What arrived was not. I have been given the run around ever since. Trainers had a scuff on the back of one, laces where different on one shoe to the other and marks on the sole. The spare laces were thrown on top of the shoes and were not in the protective bag. They couldnt even be bothered to put the paper stuffing back inside the trainer. They look to be a display pair which was was not advertised. I called customer service who I had already sent pictures to via email with no response who told me I would have to wait for a refund upto 10 days for them to do an investigation. I had to argue with them telling them it's not my fault why should I wait all I want is my trainers. She told me she would send me another pair only to recieve am email a couple hours later saying there warehouse team had made yet another mistake and that these where the last pair!! That would explain the pair that I was sent!! I sent the pair via there link and was told it would be fast tracked as it was there fault. I'm still waiting no trainers and no money. This is one of the worst experiences of online shopping I've ever had. I have a holiday booked next week and now will not be able to order from else where all I can say is if you need something from this company to be delivered and quality checked with peace of mind you will not get that order from somewhere else. As of yet I'm still waiting 8 days from the purchase date and no sign of getting my money back being told another 10 days so 18 days for something that has nothing to with me fault wise. Ridiculous.

When you're at the famed Harvey Nicols Fifth Floor Bar and charging 18 pounds for a cocktail that contains Macallan 12, that cocktail should contain Macallan 12. If the bar is out of Macallan 12, they should ask the customer if a substitute is acceptable. In my case, without my knowledge, the bartender made the cocktail with Talisker 10. When I asked the bartender which scotch the cocktail was made with, he replied Talisker 10 because they were out of the Macallan. He went on to say that cost and flavor wise, they are the same. The flavor profiles of Macallan 12 and Talisker 10 are completely different and Macallan is substantially more expensive than the Talisker 10. I asked him to remove the cocktail from my bill. He challenged me regarding why, and when I told him it was because the cocktail was made with a different scotch than the advertised Macallan 12, he corrected me and said it was advertised as being made with the Macallan 10. I pointed out where the menu where it clearly said Macallan 12. Regardless of which Macallan, I should have been asked if it was okay to proceed with making the cocktail with another scotch. The bartender did not. They need to send their bartenders back to school and specifically to customer service 101.

This one is for the cafe on the 5th. The bad: 1. Vulgarly rude front desk (the taller brunet if I remember it correctly) 2. Low-quality ingredients. If I pay you £21 for a bloody chicken sandwich, I expect to have chicken that tastes like chicken, tomato that tastes like tomato, and lettuce that tastes like lettuce. Not some perfectly imperfect plastic bits from social shelves in Asda. And a properly made mayonnaise instead of the cheapest mass-market would be nice too. 3. Horrifying decorations. Grimsby's job center looks better than Harvey Nichols for Xmas. And this is not even a matter of budget. Garrard has put dried citrus on, yet it looks gorgeous. But this restaurant-ish went above and beyond by not even trying to hide the baubles fixed with duct tape and orphaned hangers and caps...True definition of luxury, hahaha The good: 1. The rest of the personnel were sweethearts 2. Chef's palate is not too bad, mixing and proportion of flavors are fine, could shine with the proper quality products that actually have any flavour. Overall: wouldn't come back again even if starving
