january 2025 // dinner šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ i actually thought a lot of the appetiser dishes people said were good didn't quite hit the spot; however the mains we've tried were all very solid choices. The chasiu pork chop, clean steamed fish (a classic catonese favourite šŸ‡šŸ‡°). If they put the house chilli crunch with the peanut & sesame noodles i think that will rly round the dish up as the cold noodles were missing a hit of that background heat to it and texture wasn't very aldente/chewy in which I would've expected from a cold noodle dish as such. lo bak go (radish cake) is missing the structure you would get from steaming and panfrying the cakes hence the softness of it was not what i expected from it.. A variety of canto/chinese dishes, bits of everything the chefs found and liked on their travels. some were good some weren't šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø but kudos to the chasiu and steamed fish which i thought was very nicely served and cooked. cute space decorated like a chachaanteng serving actual iced cold pints šŸ˜‹šŸŗ. Missing some classic cantonese oldies (80-00s) to really jazz the place up - cucumber, tofu skin, guizhou chilli dressing ✨ - peanut & sesame noodles - smoked duck + crispy noodle salad - bbq hispi cabbage w/ house chilli crunch ✨ - turnip cake w/ soft egg - wok'd aubergine - barbecued clams ✨ - kung pao chicken - xi'an beef soup w/ cat ear noodles - chasiu pork chop ✨ - steamed sea bass ✨ - rice - custard tart - oolong soft serve ✨ would revisit: yes reservations: walk-ins only price range: Ā£70 pp

Everything about this place šŸ¤˜šŸ» The food was banging! I’m Canadian Chinese, I eat Asian meals 9x a week, and let me tell you, this was fun, dishes were inventive (not all of them, and that’s okay!) and the portion were of good size. I especially liked: - Cucumber salad | I’ve had many cucumber salads, and this was good simple, fresh, tasty! It reminded me of a Thai papaya salad. - Salt’n’pepper mussels | If you like the typical Chinese salt and pepper flavour profile, you’ll love this! - Turnip Cake | as a lover of the classic dim sum turnip cake, I also enjoyed this :) - Custard tart | this felt loosely inspired by an HK egg tart, but different. I highly recommend ending with this! Urghhh overall so good. I was 1, but ordered enough for 2 and paid Ā£47. Also, good friendly service, nice vibes. Music’s on the louder side, but who cares?

10/10 would recommend to anyone. Great for a sharing meal with friends. Came here late without a reservation. The staff sorted us out on the side bar while waiting for a table to free up. Had ice sold Sapporo and started with cold noodles and pickled peanuts. The cold noodles were so good we had to get a second order! Spice levels are high but the food was so delicious. We also got the crispy lamb and a few other dishes not depicted here. Got too busy eating to take another photo. Atmosphere was great inside. Very cozy and friendly. We even got a piece of cake from the staff as they were closing up and had some left over!

TIP: YOU HAVE TO BOOK A TABLE.

We walked in and were asked if we had booked, we said no as we just walked in out of curiosity. The guy serving us was huffy but his adviser/colleague provided us a table.

We found three dishes per person was plenty. We underestimated as we saw the dishes looked small and ordered a 7th wish was one of the biggest - the beef and potato stew and didn’t have enough space to eat it (and we eat quite big portions).

Loved the flavours, all authentic and flavoursome and well done. Loved the turnip cake the most and the sesame noodles also.

The music was too loud and a bit distracting and the service was not great- no plates were collected at any point and we were made to feel a little awkward for being squeezed in and reminded as we ate that we would need to essentially be quicker. We also offered to move tables but carried all our dishes over without help. Essentially if they felt we were in the way we should have been told to book.

Regardless of the booking issue I loved the food and I’ll be going back, with a...

I cant tell you how happy I am that these guys have finally opened up a restaurant! I have been going to their pop ups for years but they finally have a home that is very easy to get to, only 5 minutes walk from Hackney Central. The food is unlike any Chinese I've had before, sesame noodles sensational, cucumbers so good! Pineapple rice is punchy! The range of meat dishes will send any carnivore to meat heaven, with some of the most fingerlicking marinates like the chicken wings we had. And fear not vegans, they have just as many dishes for you too. The typhoon shelter sprouts, which I think could be my favourite, sweet and crunchy with melting spring onions mmmm. I could talk about the food forever. The service really gives you sense of how much these guys care about what they're doing, they are so knowledgeable about the food, what regions each dish comes from, even giving you stories about some of there trips and background on how they found them. I love this place. If you...
