Beyond disappointed. Worst theatre experience of my life. I attended a performance of Oedipus tonight that I had been gifted tickets to, and the service was nothing but dissatisfaction. I arrived promptly, went to the bar and ordered a drink and was informed there would be no interval (this being a two hour show). Forty minutes into the show I got up to go to the toilet and when trying to re-enter I was informed I could not go back in, despite the staff walking in and out, and multiple set changes which provided the downtime to go back in. I had an aisle seat towards the back and close to the door - I do not see how this would impact anyones experience. I was impolitely informed that it was policy and that I had to sit by the bar for the remainder of the show. For the remaining hour and twenty minutes I watched, sat on an uncomfortable chair in a bright room through a small, low quality screen with terrible sound whilst just a few metres away the staff around me talked and laughed loudly - I couldn’t even get a drink as the bar was closed during the show. The lights were so bright and started to give me a headache and if I wanted to get any painkillers I couldn't, as I was told I was unable to get my bag that I had left by my seat. I had booked off work to watch the show and if it were my £100 spent on a ticket I would have been even more disgruntled. I can’t help but feel that if I were a more vocal person towards the staff or were elderly that I may have been treated differently. As someone working in customer service I understand and respect company policy and I am not normally one to complain but the complete disregard for customer wellbeing and the lack of respect I received has compelled me to write this review as a warning to others who may be looking to come to this theatre. Very sad that I was unable to enjoy the show as from the bits I had managed to catch it looked like it should have been brilliant. I will not be...
Read moreWe did not like the My Master Builder play. It was like the characters were taking turns speaking out their lines, instead of engaging with each other.
Spoilers ahead
The whole point of the timing of the event in the play is the death of the child, yet Ewan McGregor didn’t act like a parent on their child’s death announcement , at all. Especially the parent who was supposed to be supervising the kid. It’s one thing to forgive yourself, but another to not show any sadness. There was zero chemistry between Hilde and Henry. Even the characters wondered aloud why they were invited to the event, because it’s not realistic. This play really jumped the shark, when after Henry hadn’t seen or heard from Hilde in 10 years, he proclaims his love for her. Even Hilde says something like, how could you feel love when it’s our first meeting in ages?
Some characters seemed to be not at the same event- the ladies in formal gowns while the men were in beach-combing attire. People who were supposed to be wet, weren’t.
There wasn’t much attention given to the subplots. The secondary romance wasn’t wrapped up. It was like, Tell your wife-Dont be Silly-Well ok then.
Oddly, instead of making jokes about the Brits in the American setting, the play Made the US the butt of jokes and, despite the UK being second-to-none in ceremonialism and pomp & circumstance, tried and failed to make US Independence Day seem ridiculous due to having barbecues and fireworks? Are fireworks only appropriate at Guy Fawkes and NYE now?
The end of the play was of course Predictable and stupid.
I gave two stars because the theater has comfortable seats and the stage is close, but a very tall man was in front of my husband so he couldn’t see well- which could have been less bothersome, had the seats been...
Read moreWe went to see Life Of Pi. I loved the show and was glad I went .
I enjoyed the endearing cultural phrases and mannerisms used by the cast to portray the Indian family and community.
I was impressed by the animal puppets. It must be difficult to cue the animal puppets and the noises they make on time. My partner was otherwise was not impressed. As the puppets had to be carried by 2 or maybe 3 people, this meant that there were alot of extra bodies on the small stage. They were wearing jogging bottoms and t-shirts that didn't in any way blend with the animal that they were carrying.
Having seen The Lion King, where the cast wore the puppets ,we had expected something similar.
We sat in the Grand Circle. The legroom is half decent for a change . I visited the toilet, not a disabled toilet. they we clean and we'll maintained. My only issue with the toilet is that you had to squeeze in and around the door It was so very narrow. If you had taken children and they needed assistance that would not be possible.
Drinks were served promptly at the bar and staff were polite and friendly.
We went to visit the giftshop area and it was a huge disappointment it had very limited and unexciting stock ,so we...
