Great tapestry of the Norman Conquest and the events leading up to it. It's a Victorian Tapestry which is a true copy of the original. It's big! Allow 40 minutes to get a good look or longer if you like to read all the information given under each panel as we did. It gives an insight into the power politics surrounding the succession and reason for William's claim to the Throne. Free entry. Also it is part of the Reading Museum which covers the main historical events of Reading. It is also free of charge.

I've seen the original bayeaux tapestry from Normandy, so I'm excited to see the English copy. The English version has a blue boarder, and underwear was added to the soldiers 😂. Other than that, the length is identical, but here, the tapestry is broken into two parts, and in Bayeaux, it's one continuous cloth.

Britain's Bayeux Tapestry is one of the world's most famous pieces of medieval art. You can visit these amazing tapestry artworks in Reading's museum. The Tapestry is a copy, and it took a year to make.

Excellent hand embroidered copy of the original by Victorian-era women of Leek, Staffordshire. What an undertaking, beautifully done. We had a better experience of seeing this compared to the original, due to the setup, lighting, and (surprisingly) the pre-battle events separated from the battle itself. I noticed a teacher (or summer camp instructor?) using this break very effectively with his students in reviewing the leadup to battle and encouraging curiosity as to what would happen next. There were many sections I had no memory of from seeing the original, including of the horses in tortued positions during battle- just incredible. It's a powerful historical record and I'd strongly recommend viewing this version. Well done,...
