Urban Escape Games - Alpharetta Address: 20 Mansell Ct E Suite #275, Alpharetta, GA 30076 Visit Date: Sunday, July 7, 2024 Game Time: 3:45 PM
If you’ve done over 30 escape rooms, you might think you’ve seen it all. Well, let me tell you, Urban Escape Games in Alpharetta just took our expectations, threw them overboard, and made them walk the plank! My wife, her best friend Jordan, and Jordan’s husband Brandon joined me for this unforgettable adventure. Spoiler alert: this place is fantastic.
First Impressions: From the moment we walked into the open, clean lobby, we knew we were in for a treat. Our game master, Jerrin (or maybe it’s Jarren? Not entirely sure on the spelling), greeted us with a huge smile that could rival a Cheshire cat. He was ready to make our escape room experience legendary.
Pirates' Cabin: Our first adventure was Pirates' Cabin. Here’s the setup: you’re part of a pirate crew, mid-battle with the British Navy. Your captain has hidden gold in a mainland cabin, and it’s up to you to find it before the British do. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. We were stumped and, for only the second time in our escape room history, didn’t make it out in the 60 minutes. The room’s difficulty rating online was a 5/10. Don’t believe it. If you love locks, this room’s got more than a high-security prison. We took too long figuring out the first few clues, but Jerrin was our beacon of hope. He only gave us clues when we asked, but the real magic happened when our time was up. He let us stay an extra 20 minutes, and with his guidance, we finally escaped. Jerrin, you’re the real MVP!
Photo Shoot Fun: Post-escape, Jerrin turned into our personal photographer, making sure we got all the perfect shots. His enthusiasm was infectious, and his photography skills were top-notch. We were all smiles and laughter, and that energy carried us back to the lobby.
Round Two: Trapped In Time: Still buzzing from our pirate adventure, and to be transparent a little upset we didnt escape, Darren’s awesome time and the fact that we had time, we decided to take on a second room right then and there. This time, we tackled Trapped In Time. Doc Scott’s latest invention had him trapped, and it was up to us to save him before he was lost forever. We barely made it out, but we did it!
Final Thoughts: Jerrin was once again our hero, guiding us through another set of challenges and ensuring we had the best time. His exceptional customer service and genuine enthusiasm made our day. It’s easy to forget how much of a difference great staff can make, but Jerrin was a shining example.
Urban Escape Games, you’ve got yourself some lifelong fans. We’ll be back, and we’ll be bringing friends. Thank you, Jerrin, for making our escape room experience legendary. If anyone’s looking for a fantastic escape room with amazing staff, look no further. Urban Escape Games in Alpharetta is where the...
Read moreI don't consider myself an expert when it comes to escape games, I just love doing them and I have about 20 under my belt. I am trying to find immersive environments, challenging puzzles, and cool interactions, and I am going back and reviewing all of the experiences that I have done.
This was my first experience in an escape game.
It was extremely fun and was recommended to me by a family friend. I took my family with me and we did the CDC experience and we were almost out, but some of our family's conflicting brains, we were unable to successfully escape.
We ended up coming back about a year later for a friend's birthday party and we did the Mr. Magic room and escaped with ~6 minutes remaining. Just a few more rooms to go!
CDC Lockdown (!!!This was in 2015, things have most likely changed!!!)
Thought Puzzles: Difficulty - 8/10 (There were some math/science based puzzles and we are those kind of people and we over thought a lot of things.) Interactive Puzzles: Impressions - 7/10 (There was some cool little interactions that we had to do. Nothing special, but neat nonetheless.)
Visuals: 9/10 (Looked like a lab and some awesome coats to wear as well.) Audio: 7/10 Overall Immersion: 9/10
Clue System: 8/10 (Calling on a phone talking to the GM) Venue: 8/10 (Kind of small at first, open waiting/debrief area) Staff: 10/10 (Very friendly and helpful.)
Mr. Magic (April 2017; 13th Escape Game) Thought Puzzles: Difficulty - 6/10 (Some cool little puzzles that we had to figure out, nothing too difficult, great beginner room) Interactive Puzzles: Impressions - 9/10 (They had a really cool puzzle that you had to interact with, as well as small ones that feel good once you complete them)
Visuals: 8/10 (Magician's Room decor was appropriate, but also kind of empty, the booth took the show though) Audio: N/A (I don't remember if there was a soundtrack or not.) Overall Immersion: 7/10 (Cool scenery, but I wasn't convinced I could do magic, perhaps that is just me. )
Clue System: 8/10 (Calling on a phone talking to the GM) Venue: 8/10 (Kind of small at first, open waiting/debrief area) Staff: 10/10 (Very friendly and helpful.)
Overall Impressions: 5/5 I would definitely go and do their other rooms. They don't have the best immersion/set design around town, but the puzzles are fun and the challenge of working together is great as well. The Magician's Room feels like a great beginner room, and CDC Lockdown felt like a good moderate room. Staff is friendly...
Read moreThis was a blast! My company took my suggestion of doing an escape room and made it a team building outing. Up until now, I've only gotten a chance to do the many escape rooms around Atlanta with my small group but it was my first time doing it as a special event.
This is one of the few places that actually properly support team building exercises beyond the rooms themselves. The exercises themselves were fun with staff who were willing to participate in that fun.
Our company split into four sizable groups of about 7 or 8 people for the rooms themselves. The groups were largely an older crowd in the 40s and they felt like the puzzles were fair and reasonably challenging. The group I got put in, which was probably the only one which had members who had been to escape rooms before, also had a good time.
I have probably personally done over a couple dozen escape rooms so I'll try to share the experience from that point of view. We tackled Mr Magic's room which was decorated sparsely but very appropriately. The puzzles were loosely themed as opposed to just generic puzzles but still felt like that could have been improved on. There was one magical moment where one of the puzzles was a tutorial on how to do a real magic trick - and that was great! I hope that more designers will design more for the immersiveness of a room. The strength of the room was how well the puzzles flowed together and came at a reasonable pace with a good challenge.
Our game master was pretty excitable, I wish I could remember her name. She had encouraging hints that took care to respect that we were all in the zone and putting in effort. She actually took notes to give us our own performance review on our teamwork and the parts that we were exceptional on. Little things like us understanding the rabbit and the metal buttons and being very communicative with each other were things I appreciated her being observant about.
I don't know if these were special for doing the corporate team building activities but definitely would say this is a great escape room business for all...
