The person who owns this store also owns all the apartment units above it and on the block/around the corner, as well as more than a dozen other rental properties in Arlington. He has a monopoly in the town and is raising rents that increases the market prices all over. I loved my apt while I lived there, but it had a couple of really bad code violations he dragged his feet on fixing--namely windows in very bad shape, one of which literally blew out when a severe storm came to town just a couple of months into living there. It took him 2.5 mos to replace the window (that's right, I had no window for months), only after I threatened to call the Board of Health. There was also a faulty alarm in the store that would go off for hours in the middle of the night and he didn't care. He raised rents super high on all of us, but higher for me (which I think was backlash for my complaining about the windows and alarm). If you give your business to this store, you're financially supporting this guy's rental ventures and inadvertently investing in his monopoly, which is making the Town more expensive. Services recently gotten worse because of change of ownership. Previously the staff were drinking enthusiasts which means they could give good recommendations. This is no longer true.
