Pressure, pressure, pressure. I photographed a wedding at Antioch Baptist Church today. I was not allowed to shoot the wedding from the main floor during the actual wedding ceremony, but I was directed to shoot the wedding from the balcony. I was told that after the wedding, I could stage the wedding and shoot from the main floor.
After the wedding, I set up lighting, and we staged the significant wedding shots. However, the whole time, a lady kept telling me about every two minutes that I needed to hurry up and take shots with the pastor so he could leave. That's exactly what I wanted to do so she could leave me alone. I really wanted to skip all pictures that included the pastor so that I could work without interruptions. The wedding party wanted to finish taking their photos outside. During the shoot outside of the venue, a lady came outside with security, and told us that we needed to stop the shoot, come inside, and get our things. The groom asked if we could have 15 minutes to finish taking pictures. The lady responded that she was trying to be nice, but everyone needed to get their things out of the church immediately . The request was not unreasonable, but it could have been handled professionally.
She upset the bride and the groom on their wedding day, and as a professional, that is the absolute last thing that should happen.
I have worked in many venues over the years, but this was the most difficult to work with that I have experienced. It is a very nice church, but literally running up and down stairs to get my shots because of the their guidelines made my day physically difficult. And when we moved the shoot outside, it only became worse. Seeing how this situation was handled in front of the bride and groom showed everyone present that customer service is not a priority at this venue.
My assistants and I left this venue physically exhausted and stressed. Even worse, the bride and groom left frustrated on their wedding day. I have never experienced anything like it. There are too many very nice venues in the Atlanta area for me to recommend Antioch Baptist Church...
