Definitely location matters, parking lot matters (particularly when you have not precisely friendly neighbors), spaces matters. Samflax for me was classified as an Art Supply Store with style and unique because you can find always more than what you have in mind and many times unique items that you don't find anywhere, at least not easily. The store that used to be on Peachtree Rd, I think that as been the best location, was a pleasure to walked in and shopping around. Unfortunately the new location is firstly hard to park, dangerous with crossing streets, uncomfortable with those Atlanta tight streets. Secondly the store inside is pretty dark, you feel like someone suddenly will jump from a mysterious dark corner in front of you asking for "trick or treat"! Definitely the new space seems like a 1/3 from the old store, same as the items inside, probably all what they need is good illumination so we can see that cyan is cyan and not sky blue, magenta is magenta and not bugamnilia . Team still friendly and helpful. Regardless of everything above I found what I was looking for and I would return to the store because I know that I will find what I want or more. But I must to say whoever owns that place that hopefully that location is just temporary and will move out to a place where you can keep enjoyed shopping around and nobody is looking you through the window neighbor's checking where you're going to park and walking in without the feeling that you should better be armed to shop around. Hopefully they'll have a better idea for the near future. In the mean time I will repeat "I can do it, I can do it, I can do it". Anyway, I know there's always a reason why they've moved on, whatever it was, I still wishing you a...
Read moreI visited Sam Flax for the first time today. I am amazed at the quality, selection and how well organized it is. We were immediately welcomed when we walked in and asked if there was anything they could help us with - and help they did! I was taken directly to the watercolor paper I asked about. Sophie, the owner helped me and she knew exactly what questions to ask and was able to make excellent recommendations. She didn’t immediately point me to the most expensive items either, she is really knowledgeable about what they have and how best to use it for what your individual needs are.
They even have a place set up for you to test out their quality paintbrushes! No more paying for a brush that doesn’t work the way you want it to. Additionally, they have a nice selection of decorative paper.
They even give discounts to teachers, students, military, etc.
This is my new go-to spot for...
Read moreLOVE THIS PLACE! Better than Blick for sure. Nicer staff, a larger selection, and just an all-around nice art store. Its layout is awesome as well. It has separate rooms and it almost feels like you're shopping in a big house! a quirky and welcomed touch =) especially for a creative space. I like colored pencils and they have a wonderful selection of open stock, which is important to me. If they don't have something they can order it, and they are more than happy to put your information and product(s)and give you a call when it arrives! I live about an hour away and it's totally worth the drive. Free parking (unlike Blick), and plenty of space. Most definitely you need to give this place a try. Prices? Well you know the industry. Its tight margins (thank you Amazon). So you arent going to get EPIC deals or anything like that, but you will have plenty to look at, and likely you will enjoy...
