My mother is an art teacher, and I grew up visiting every museum we could! The High Museum of Art was LOVELY.
I quite respected the very kind staff, and the security wasn't too on edge, as they often can be. This is understandable sometimes, of course, but security was helpful and kind with any of our questions which we very much appreciated.
I especially appreciated the Folk Art and African Art exhibit on the 3rd or 4th floor. Beyond that there was also massive abstract pieces that were lovely to engage and take photos with. I love seeing art that goes beyond what many museums exclusively display as art history cannon: the white colonial men and women, which, don't get me wrong, has an important place in art history and art appreciation. I just loved seeing the deviations, because they, too, are extremely important. For this reason, I would recommend visiting the top floor first and working your way down.
One of my favorite exhibits was one representing Persian art. I believe it was a temporary exhibit. It was something, I had never really seem, especially in that capacity.
The museum itself is a lovely space, very clean and sterile to some degree, but also very elegant and modern. My bf and I dreaded that the interactive children's spaces were closed (due to COVID), because they looked quite...
Read moreAttended the woodruff Arts center and High Museum for a Friday night vibes night. Was a salsa night. Very very packed event. There were a few vendors as you walked into the open area where individual shared cocktails, conversation and also entertained by a DJ with a salsa instructor who gave a large class on the simple salsa routine and it was very fun to watch all of the people in the event participating. This was more of a Latin vibe the entire night because it brought out mass majority of the Hispanic and Latino community which was a vibe. Was really nice to see all of the cultures whether it be Caucasian, Latino, Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Brown Americans there. It was just pleasant to see everyone amongst each other enjoying themselves. Out on the side balcony type deck situation there was another DJ with some hip hop music playing where people were out enjoying cocktails and conversation out there There was also lots of there was also lots of alcohol bars set up in different areas of the museum as well as several different DJs set up in the different rooms. There is opportunities to move around the museum and admire the different levels of artwork as well. Definitely a vibe and fun...

Anyway to her credit she looked into the distance and thought for a minute.
Then she looked at me and smiled and said well yes!
Don't skip the symphony and don't skip the high museum. If you feel like acting out at the symphony and you want to wear your see-through dress with your strapless heels and whatever that's cool oh, one of my dates did that and it was a lot of fun. Going to rehearsals and stuff like that is also highly recommended. Do not make noise.
The High museum (high.org) is also a treasure. Recently they've taken on a very very serious Civil Rights turn and when I say recently I mean the past 10 to 15 years so for juneteenth this year (2019) they just knocked it out of the park. I don't know when you're reading this book currently African has moved from the bottom to the top floor and photography is where African used to be. Each of those is a global class collection. The Thornton Dials...
