Kites Unlimited & Bird Stuff, etc — Local services in Atlantic Beach

This is a place to get a really nice kite that will hold up a long time, not a kite to throw in the trash at the end of the trip. The prices reflect that but the products are obviously high-quality and the owners know about kites. I just cannot get over the way the shopkeeper spoke to my mom and that is why I’m rating the shop lower. She was just trying to explain what she was looking for and the man cut her off mid-sentence and made perhaps the rudest comment I’ve ever heard from a staff member in a business establishment. He is obviously neurodivergent. I have been going into the shop since I was a kid and I remember he has always been kind of awkward and abrasive. This was still a very off-putting encounter and we got out of there as fast as possible. It’s really too bad because the shop is cool. I don’t think I’ll ever go back there. If you go in, just be prepared to have extra patience and understanding for the man running the shop. Also, although the shop is really colorful and attractive to kids, I get the sense that they would freak out if kids made any effort to actually interact with...

My four children and I went into this store with grandparents to buy some toys. The elderly gentleman/worker was ABSOLUTELY RUDE!! My kids were looking at the stuffed animals and were touching them. He fussed at them saying that they weren’t there to play with. We thought he was joking like a grandpa might do so we smiled and giggled. And he said, “I’m serious they aren’t to play with!”

I would order online rather than support a rude small business like this…and I am all for supporting small local businesses!

Update: And in response to Covid comment…if you don’t want the toys to be touched, then put them out of reach of children…it’s a toy store for...

We travel from upstate New York every year to vacation in North Carolina. This store is always on our top list of places to stop before we go home. We load up on flags. We live on one of the windiest lakes in New York State. All of our flags take a real beating. Only the flags we have purchased from this store have made it through an upstate New York winter on a windy (think gusts 30 to 40 mph). The quality cannot be beat. I highly, highly recommend. I only wish they had a website where you could buy things online from their store. We would buy even more...
