Hello,
After discussing my computer needs, Glenn at Discount PC recommended the Dell 7240 with docking station. This was a great recommendation. The 7240 is a very nice laptop, and when attached to the docking station is makes a great PC.
In addition to the 7240 and docking station, I also purchased two 19 inch monitors that plug into the docking station. This set-up works very well with my computing needs. The extra monitor is extremely helpful.
I also purchased the wireless keyboard and mouse, and the non wireless keyboard and mouse. So far, I have only used the non wireless keyboard. This both keyboards are not refurbished, they are brand new in the box. I did not inquire into the keyboards before ordering, I assumed they were refurbished Dell, but they were new Dell. The quality of these keyboard are low end, but I have no problems with the non wireless keyboard. The non wireless mouse is not very good. The wireless mouse works great, but it is kind of low end.
After setting up the laptop, docking station, and monitors I had problems connecting to Wi-Fi. I searched the internet to solutions and there was indeed issues with computers that have been upgraded from Win 8 to Win 10 with Wi-Fi connection issues. I took the laptop to the local computer store and they said; yes, this is a know issue and it could cost $300 - $400 to fix it, if it could be fixed at all. I was more than a little disappointed when I heard that.
I left the local computer store and decided to call Discount PC and find out if anyone else was having the problem. When I called, is was past closing time when the lady answered the phone. She quickly got me to Ken, the tech that actually packaged my computer. Over the phone he quickly assured me that my laptop had a fresh Win 10 install, and what ever he problem was, they would take care of it. After asking me a series of questions, in no time Ken had figured out that I had the mechanical switch for the Wi-Fi turned off, without telling me what a dumb ass I was.
I have stalled writing this review until I had time to work with my 7240. I can not say how pleased I am with this laptop. The screen is super sharp, the touch screen is very handy, and the keyboard is easy to type on, although most of the time I use the full size keyboard plugged to the docking station. The 7240 is very easy to disconnect from the docking station (which comes with he plastic spacer), and attach. The 12 size makes it very easy to pack and be mobile. Glenn made an excellent recommendation for this laptop and I am grateful that I got this laptop instead of the 7440, just because the easy portability, and the fact that I do not need the bigger 14 screen when I have the docking station and full size monitors attached.
One thing I forgot to mention, I live in Spokane Wash, and Discount PC is in Texas. I do not recall the exact time from order to receiving the PC, but it was only a few days. I was surprised when boxes where delivered. Everything was very nicely packaged and securely wrapped.
Discount PC has treated me very well from start to finish. If I make any additional purchases, or PC recommendations to other traders, I will definitely recommend Discount...
Read moreDiscount PC Austin changed our business model completely. Working with previous local laptop and desktop refurb resellers was at best hit or miss on prices and availability, and resulted in inconsistent equipment for our customers and had to be backed by continual scanning for deals from online resellers. We met April through one of our previous resellers, where her superb program and customer account skills were wasted. When one of ex-resellers recommended Discount PC, for our volume, and April was there ... and they were able to not only meet our needs ... with a consistent line of laptops and desktops we needed ... at better and more consistent pricing, via a well executed B2B model than we previously experienced ... well the rest is history. We're happy, our customers are happy and everyone is doing well. Kudos to Jeff, who took personal interest in us and is one of the few people that could make Discount PC a success, April of course, the upfront staff and the techs who have always responded quickly with answers to questions and suggestions and especially the folks behind the scenes creating such high quality...
Read more*Update 4/22/25 Customer support was very helpful and provided alternatives for me. The package was accidentally shipped somewhere when I had selected to pickup in person. They were able to offer me a comparable alternative and shipped it to my address and arrived next day. I selected to pick my order up from the physical location in Austin and figured it was a storefront that already had it available so it doesn’t have to be shipped out. That was not the case and it was shipped out to the physical location. I can not get ahold of anyone at the store to pick up my package that was delivered to them. I went to the physical location and it’s completely closed during the day with a sign saying they are not a physical store and to use their website, (not called DiscountPC, name is Evergreen on the building). Very frustrating process and still don’t know where my order is. Open to updating my review if there is a...
