I live at the Standard and love my apartment complex, but just had the worst experience with the Domain Northside management. I live in building C, next to the purple garage. Parking for residents is on the top two levels of the 5 story garage. Yesterday I got back from dropping my dog off at daycare and left my car on the ground level — which was completely empty, as it has been all day every day during the week since March — because I was just running inside to change clothes before leaving again and it seemed silly to drive all the way to the top of the garage and back down when the entire garage is empty. I would never park on the retail levels when they actually need that parking for shoppers, but I didn’t think they would actually be enforcing that now when parking is no longer an issue.
I was wrong. I was upstairs for less than 30 minutes at 11:00 a.m. and came back to find a ‘unauthorized vehicle’ sticker covering my drivers side window. When I went to the management office to ask them to get it off as I couldn’t, the manager told me that they “weren’t going to touch my property”...despite the fact that they had no problem touching it to put the sticker on it. When I very civilly pointed out that I am both a resident and a retail customer as I spend money in the shops and restaurants here every single day, and that there was no rational reason for defacing my car for parking on the wrong level for 30 minutes when the parking garage is always empty now, this corporate douchebag just told me that ‘residents know where they’re supposed to park.’ I had to spend 45 minutes scraping my window with a razor blade because that fat f#*k apparently has nothing better to do than enforce rules that serve absolutely no purpose right now. So disgusted that the Domain Northside management treats the residents — who are the only thing keeping most of the retail spots in business right...
Read moreThe restaurants are great and the vibe is cool, but only if you do not encounter the dreaded "Karen".
I was waiting for a friend of mine I brought to play in his band at Culinary Dropout last night (Saturday). I can't really hang out in the restaurant since there are paying customers and it is crowded, so I decided to wait in the common area just outside. I was waiting for my friend to finish his last set when a woman walked by that fell and I, along with another gentleman and a lady from the Tex-Mex place rushed to help. She was thankfully OK and walked on. The lady who came over then turned to me and then turned on me, claiming I was loitering and "watching every girl walk by" with my "shirt unbuttoned" and "sagging my pants" and accused me baselessly of being some kind of sexual predator. As a 58 year old gay man this was amusing but was also absolutely rude beyond belief to be subjected to such ugly projection. I literally approached nor spoke to any woman (not even the lady who fell as she only talked to the other 2 people).
I guess the "Karen" in this situation thought she could be my mother and do a public shaming. This kind of thing is what our society has come to and it is just not safe to be in public. I had credible fear she was going to escalate the situation and the police might get involved. Who knows what she was capable of.
Remind me to park my behind at Starbucks the next time I am at the Domain or to just leave and come back when I need to pick up my friend.
This town used to be fun, but now,...
Read moreThe Domain Northside is one of my favorite places to spend a weekend in Austin! It offers the perfect mix of shopping, dining, and atmosphere. The layout is walkable and inviting, with plenty of shaded spots, cute outdoor seating, and great people-watching. Whether you’re looking for luxury brands, local boutiques, or unique pop-ups, there’s a little something for everyone.
The customer service across stores and restaurants has always been excellent, especially at places like Nordstrom, Restoration Hardware, and some of the specialty beauty counters. Staff are friendly, helpful, and genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. I’ve never had trouble finding parking (both garage and street options), and I love that it’s so dog-friendly and tons of patios and water bowls set out for pups.
The food and drink options are another major highlight. From quick bites to date night spots, the variety is fantastic. There's always something new to check out, and events like live music or markets make the area feel vibrant and community-focused.
If you're visiting Austin or just want a fun, elevated shopping and dining experience, Domain Northside is a must. It’s become a go-to destination for me and a place I always...
