I found a medallion one evening walking to the busstop. I didn't believe it was real although the loop on it said 14k. It reminded me of the fake gold jewelry you find in the convenience stores or gas stations in the clear boxes on the counters. I went to a different jewelry store a few blocks up the street and inquired if it were real. Mind you I was a homeless person and I had a few bags with me so I wasn't exactly the ideal customer, I guess . But I thought I would give it a try . They said they would do an acid test and be right back. After a few mins the associate came back and said their'expert' couldn't tell if it was real or not. Yeah, that's what I thought. So we went down to Koen's Jewelers and as we walked in Mr. Koen met us at the door. I thought once again that I would be basically turned away, or made to feel unworthy to be in his store, so I told him his competitor had no idea if this was gold or not, and if he wouldn't mind looking to see if it was? He politely took it to the back, and after about 2 minutes, he came back and told me, with a big smile on his face, that it WAS REAL, and that it was worth about $750! Imagine my surprise! I asked if he bought gold and he said yes; with a smile he came back with a check and I thanked him with a big hug which he graciously gave me back! I have nothing but good things to say about this business! Mr. Koen did not make me feel uncomfortable because I was a homeless person, not dressed as successfully as some of his other customers in his store that day, or treated me like I was less than a person for being in his store. I recommend him to anybody that has any jewelry or gold inquiries, and the fact that he is a locally owned and operated Austin proprietor, I support local businesses. Thank you Mr. Koen for making my birthday weekend one...
Read moreWent to get a family heirloom 22k gold necklace clasp switched out for a lobster claw clasp and they lost the original 22k clasp. I specifically asked for the clasp back. Took a month to get the necklace back when originally quoted 7-10 days because they apparently don't do repairs in house anymore and had to ship out to a 3rd party jeweler. I was told they âusuallyâ always return the original clasp with the necklace. Doesnât help me in this case. Might be a good place if youâre trying to sell or buy but not for repairs unless youâre willing to have pieces lost in the process.
Edit: I wouldnât have written this review if it was just one mistake. The entire process was frustrating as I had to hunt down updates the entire month because as I had mentioned in two previous emails, I was not receiving the text messages that were sent. Turns out they input the wrong number and didnât care to check after I confirmed my number in two other emails. Had to show up in person 4 times because communication was awful. Finally got my clasp back with 2 large chunks missing, and received numerous apologies but no effort to remedy the situation. Service is not ideal and suggest going elsewhere for jewelry repairs and this is coming from someone who gave a Dennyâs 5 stars...
Read moreCustomer service was good. I had a small stone replaced that I lost, rings cleaned and prongs tightened. The estimated time to be ready was 10 days and it was 10 Days exactly. The stone was $45 to replace. The labor was $400 plus. I suppose I am out of touch with that balance. Service was great, end product was great. Price not so much. Amendment to my review. After consideration of the actual work completed I would like to update the review
I was provided a copy of my receipt to refresh my memory. I apologize fir short changing the actual work performed. âWe worked on three rings for you. The white metal emerald cut solitaire, we sized it up (added metal), then clean, polished, rhodium finished and re-tightened the center stone for $130. The yellow gold band we sized up (added metal), cleaned and polished for $60. The yellow ring guard we supplied a new stone for $45, sized it up (added metal), cleaned, polished and re-tightened all stones for $150.â The owner was kind in offering to reconsider the amount charged. This is not necessary as the work completed was done in sincerity and of quality.
Thank you for reminding me of the appropriate reflection of the work performed and not merely a surface consideration.
