Stunning beautiful and embracing Cathedral. I visited on a Saturday morning and the church was quiet, filled with light and the peace of Jesus. Absolutely stunning. I look forward to praising God at mass one day soon in this beautiful cathedral. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us.

Saint Mary Cathedral Diocese of Austin Important Dates FacebookXPinterestLinkedInShare 1852: Began as St. Patrick Church, located at 9th and Brazos streets

1866: Name changed to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church

1874: New church construction began at 10th and Brazos streets

1884: Church construction completed April 20, 1884: New church dedication

Nov. 15, 1947: Church designated a cathedral

April 2, 1973: Building listed in the National Register of Historical Places

Who are we? Saint Mary Cathedral consists of a wide range of different people, from all ages and different backgrounds. Whomever you are, you are assured a very warm welcome at the Cathedral.

When to arrive: If you plan on attending a Mass and it's your first visit, then it's recommended to arrive 15 minutes early before Mass. For the Easter and Christmas Masses, you should plan to arrive 45 minutes to an hour, due to the amount of people that attend.

Parking:Please note recent changes to parking

After 5pm M-F and all day Sat and Sun: Free parking is available in Capital Parking Tower Garage located off of San Jacinto. You can get your parking ticket validated in the Donohue Center Gym. Street/metered parking is free Saturday before 11am and all day Sunday and Mon and Tues evenings.

M-F before 5pm We are no longer able to have free parking in the garage due to changes in the garage management's policies (which we do not control). You can still use the garage but will have to pay. Street/metered parking will usually be the most economical option. Street parking is free before 8am Mon-Fri.

What to wear: Please dress in a way that will allow you and others around you to focus on God without the danger of being distracted by your attire. Modesty is a must, simplicity is better, cleanliness is helpful and comfort is holy.

Does the Cathedral just meet on Sundays? Of course not! God is with us all week long and we aim to lead lives pleasing to Him. To further encourage us outside of the Mass, we have several ministry opportunities. Getting involved in a ministry is a great way to get to know others in the parish and to be real with each other about...

This has been my favorite Catholic church. It's beautiful and impressive structure, great teachings, and warm people are what make this a family church. Have you heard the choir? It is as close to angels singing on earth.

My reasons for only three stars comes from having to wait a long time to get out of the parking garage. Everyone now has to insert a hopefully validated ticket to get out instead of just leaving the gate open for mass. If it were but a lesson in patience, then by all means; however, we both need to be at work which is not far in the downtown area. On numerous occasions has this arrangement caused us to be late (and be reprimanded) for work. On a few of those, the validation did not redeem, which causes more frustration to retrieve payment (by us and the others in vehicles ahead) further delaying what once was a streamlined exit. The only solution in our control is to jet out of mass as soon as we've received Communion. That invokes feelings of guilt for bailing out of mass prior to its conclusion.

Solutions, one or both:

Leave gates open on Sunday

Change noon mass to 1130 or 1100. (Much more difficult, not impossible, on a schedule that has been...
