On 2/8 I stayed at Holiday Inn Express in Austin Downtown University.
When I checked out on 2/9 the white round sound machine was still in the restroom unplugged with the cord wrapped up. I put all my dirty towels on the floor and a few on counter next to machine not thinking anything of it. I had a late check out on this day for the game so I left at 1215 pm. When I checked out I notified them of all the noise last night from the constant running down the halls from the girls volleyball team, to being too close to elevator and hearing all the loud conversations, the laughter and screams, to the ice machine being used all night long. I left went to under ground garage paid for my parking and exited the gate.
After the game I checked into the Holiday Inn Indigo right next door shared by the under ground parking lot on 2/9 because they had no availability to extend the room another night where I originally was. When I checked out of this hotel, I had no issues. Paid for my parking again via app and left for home.
On yesterday I noticed a charge for $50 from Holiday Inn Express Austin Downtown to my card. I called at 10:09 am (call was 4 minutes) and a lady answered and was rude and said the charge was for a sound machine that I took from the room. I said ma’am I don’t need a sound machine I have a cell phone to use. She said well you signed the paper saying if you stole something or broke something you would be charged the incidental fee. I said but ma’am I did not do either when I left your establishment the machine was in the restroom by the towels and the other hotel I stayed at it was on the bench. I proceeded to say did you all check the towels to see if it was in there. The lady replied it was no need the housekeeper said it was in there when you checked in and it was gone when you left. And the inspector went and said yea it was gone to charge you. I said ma’am I don’t have a sound machine. If I wanted one I would have looked on Amazon for cost and order one thru them for a warranty but again my cell phone works fine for all music. She said well you want to talk to housekeeping I said yes ma’am please so she told me hold on. She transferred me some where and it rang until it hung up on me. I called back 10:14 am (call was 2 minutes) and told her the phone rang then hung up she said oh well they in a meeting right now. I said well can I speak to the supervisor she replied she not here til later. I said well when can I speak with her. She said you can call back at 12:00. I said 12:00 today. She replied yes. I said ok I will set an alarm to call back at 12:00 o’clock sharp. I said and I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name she replied and. Moore. I said ok Ms. Moore I will call back at 12:00. She said ok I said thank you and she then hung up.
12:00 sharp comes I call back. She picks up phone and says Holiday inn express can you hold, I replied yes. The lady put me on hold by putting the phone down and never coming back to the line. The worst part was she never put it on hold she just sat the phone down for over 20 minutes and I could hear the background conversations, her being rude to someone asking rates / directions, talking to someone about a coffee they ordered, her tapping and everything else she was doing or not doing verses her returning to the phone. I started recording it too, I kept screaming hello, hello it was as if she had caller id and knew it was me. 24 minutes is what that lady kept me on hold for before I Eventually I hung up.
This is wrong and sad in all ways.
Not too mention I was placed by the elevator and all night long I heard running laughing talking the ice maker going and the elevator with...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Austin Downtown - University while in town for two concerts. My primary reason for choosing this hotel was its proximity to the venue and the nearby restaurants. Overall, my experience at the hotel was good, with a few areas for improvement.
Check-in Process and Parking: The check-in process was smooth and efficient. I had requested an early check-in when making my reservation, knowing I would arrive before 3 pm. The hotel has an attached garage, and parking costs $30 per day with in/out privileges, which was convenient for my needs.
Lobby and Security: The lobby was very clean and inviting, with a refreshing view of the pool. Security measures at the hotel were adequate, requiring a room key to access the pool, gym, and guest floors. This added an extra layer of safety and comfort during my stay.
Room and Amenities: Upon reaching my floor, I noticed that it was a fairly long walk from the elevator to my room. While this made my room very quiet, the hallway's carpeting captured smells, which was less pleasant. My suggestion would be to replace the carpeting to eliminate odors.
The room itself was relatively clean but had a slight smell of the previous tenant's food, likely due to the carpeting. However, the air conditioning was excellent, providing a much-needed arctic blast in the 100-degree weather. The bathroom was clean and bright, adding to the overall comfort.
View and Nearby Amenities: My room had a view of IH35 and Stubb's BBQ, among other dining options. Stubb's BBQ was fantastic and a highlight of my trip. The bed was comfortable, and the room offered free Wi-Fi. The hotel also provided a complimentary breakfast, with additional restaurant options nearby if you preferred to eat out.
Connected Hotel: The hotel is connected to the Hotel Indigo, another IHG property, which houses a bar and restaurant. To access it, you need to go through the parking garage and follow the signs to "Hotel Indigo." This added a nice variety to the dining options available.
Checkout Process: Checkout was as easy as check-in. Thanks to my IHG benefits, I was able to extend my stay until 4 pm, which was very convenient. The checkout process involved simply handing over my key, and I could view my bill through the IHG App.
Overall Experience: Overall, my stay at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Austin Downtown - University was good. While there are a few areas for improvement, particularly concerning the carpeting and room odors, the convenient location, clean amenities, and friendly staff made it a pleasant experience. I would recommend this hotel for its proximity to local venues and restaurants, and for its overall comfort and...
