The area that encompasses the Texas' Capitol is one of the places I hold closest to my heart in Austin, TX (& this is despite the fact that I no longer live in this city). While studying at The University of Texas at Austin, I would frequent these grounds + the spaces near the TX Capitol to read, study, or listen to music while enjoying the peacefulness of the area. I just love it here so much, and now living outside of Austin, I definitely miss the ability walk to these spaces whenever desired.
Additionally of note, the architecture and grandiosity of the Texas Capitol's area really make it a sight to behold. The Texas Governor's Mansion is a piece of this notable architecture on the grounds near the Texas Capitol. Per the Office of the Governor's website, "This premier historic home has served as the official residence of Texas governors and their families since 1856. It is the fourth oldest continuously occupied governor’s residence in the country and the oldest governor’s mansion west of the Mississippi River. On June 8, 2008, the Governor's Mansion was severely damaged by arson. The Mansion was empty and all its prized contents in storage, but significant structural and architectural damage occurred to the house. With broad support from preservationists, lawmakers and Texans from all walks of life, the arsonist has not been given the last word in the history of this Texas treasure. The Governor’s Mansion has been fully restored and will be occupied by governors and their families for many more decades to come."
The history held here is really remarkable, make a whole morning or afternoon out of your trip and walk the grounds + tour the building...
