Stopped here on our way to Big Bear Lake and to discover a couple of Geocaches in the park adjacent to this museum. There is a small free parking lot in front, a park area and outdoor display to the east of the front door, and it is open from 1100 to 1600 hours daily, and it is free, but they do accept donations. The museum is not very large, but is full of historic items, from photos, newspapers, clothing, rocks, household goods, artifacts, etc., some dating back to the 1700s and all associated with Barstow and the surrounding area. There are restrooms inside the museum and the person minding the store was nice and willing to answer any questions we had. The only drawbacks to this location were how hot it was inside, and it is not well organized, reminds us more of an antique store than a museum. Still, it was worth a look, especially since we were able to find some Geocaches nearby and at least they are doing something to keep the local history alive. Even though we rated this museum “3-stars”, it does not take away from the museum’s purpose and we recommend supporting their efforts with a small donation...

This is a great little museum packed full of interesting stuff. How did people carry around those huge grinding stones, I can't imagine. I loved the finds from early human life. There are also other interesting cultural finds. There was a framed picture (2) with both Jim Thorpe and Pop Warner! Also an area with local history and highlights! Such a fun museum.

Make sure you talk to the man working the museum... he was a true gem! He was full of interesting stories about some of the displays. He discussed the origination of the museum, the early donations, and how certain items were acquired. Great little stop.

There are throwback items for sale - crackerjack boxes, made me smile! - and neat books and kid...

Went for the 1st time with my client. He enjoyed the flags and talking with Ronnie along with Susan. It had alot of stuff and educational stuff. Wish it was bigger cause it's alot to see. My client and I enjoyed the laughs and memories. Well be back for a 3rd time and going forward really soon. Customer service was amazingly honest and comfortable. The more support museums and libraries get the more our kids and future children can learn from. I appreciate museums more now that I've gone with all my clients. Keep up the good efforts of running a...

True hidden gem containing a wealth of knowledge, prestigious artifacts, and humble people. To our understanding, the museum is operated solely by volunteers. Staff were actively organizing/planning future displays during our visit which exhibits just how passionate they are about the preservation of rich history and vivid storytelling. It truly was a pleasure and find it admirable what they do. Additionally, Oliver the Museum Mascot was a wonderful greeter to visitors!
