I wish I could give this 6 stars. We weren't even planning on visiting this place, but a volunteer at the New State Capital suggested it. It might be one of the best Museum visits I have ever had. I don't even have much interest in the history of Louisiana, but this was unbelievable. Cost is $6 to get in, but it is more than worth it. They take you through the Purchase, through the various wars, Huey Long, Satchmo, life on the river, history of slavery and food production. They have a full size shrimping boat and combine. That is all on the first floor. The second floor is a walkthrough the various regions of Louisiana with details about the various music, festivals, celebrations, customs, traditions, languages, etc. It was so well done and put together. I can't compliment this place enough. We are planning a second visit because we ended up taking so much time in this place and we still felt we could have spent another hour. Go see this...

This museum was the perfect size for escaping the heat and humidity for one to two hours while picking up some fascinating history along the way.
The layout is intuitive and flows effortlessly from one era, region, and topic to the next. Each exhibit offers just the right amount of information—enough to inform and spark curiosity without overwhelming you with walls of text.
The variety of displays ensures there’s something to capture everyone’s interest, from artifacts and multimedia to interactive elements.
We were especially drawn to the 1812 eighteen-star flag, the mysterious submarine recovered from Lake Pontchartrain in 1878, the impressive 1877 American Eagle stern carving, Louis Armstrong’s bugle, and the stunning Mardi Gras costume displays.
Well worth the price of admission and a great way to spend a couple of hours in...
Read moreOverall I must say that this is a nice museum. Very clean and has really cool facts and overall gave off a really nice vibe! I enjoyed it. Now you might be wondering why didn't I give it a 5 star? I went here my 8th grade year ( around 6-7 years ago) during this time, my class was greeted by the most RUDE employee ever. Spoke as if he was SO entitled to this place. Like chill- you are LITERALLY an employee. Then he yelled at my classmate for having gum and NO he did not have gum. I felt so bad for my classmate bc he looked traumatized. I don't know if he still works there but if he does, then FIX YOUR attitude. And you know exactly who you are. Treat your visitors nicely regardless if it's as simple...
