First you get the Grand entrance and the super friendly staff at the door BUT after you leave the lobby ANYTHING GRAND is GONE! I stayed here 4th of July weekend for my daughter's 17th birthday. I wanted something really nice for her and you can't go wrong with the Hilton name right? Wrong! I was embarrassed to have my daughter's friends from school stay in such a filthy hotel. First you will be hit with the strong sent of MOLD! Next WHY do white bedding if you are not going keep it clean! I couldn't get rooms together or even close. I was offered rooms on different floors for the 15-16yr old girls in my party. I told them that was unacceptable I couldn't possibly chaperone like that, told that it was okay that the kids and I share a room BUT STILL CHARGED for the unused for BOTH NIGHTS of our stay.I could have gotten a better and cleaner room at the Renaissance or all that+BIGGER 2 BEDROOM at Homewood suites. THE POOL, the pool -hotel rato is way off! The fool is extremely small like your backyard small and only like 4 ft deep max! The 4th people looked like sardines in ringworm soup and they changed EXTRA to use the pool that night. They put a D.j out there who sucked, fireworks you could not see, and a pool you could not swim in. I wanted the fireworks on the river and the rooftop pool for the girls sleepover. This was so disappointing from the disgusting out dated rooms, the strong smell of mold, the bathroom was NASTY, the shower was impossible to use the drain wouldn't stay open, the tub fills up while you're taking a shower, and it takes forever to drain. I had nice gift bags with purple pillows and blankets for the girls but the bedding there was stained in mold or old period so I had my husband bring my air mattresses, comforters, and pillows from home! I was at THE HILTON SLEEPING ON AN EXTRA AIR MATTRESSES FROM HOME! Did I mention the large metal very shap vent cover that just fell off the ceiling and hit one of my daughter's guest in the head! The staff were nice. Very helpful, always smiling, wishing my daughter a happy birthday, they had ideas for us for places to eat, have my coffee. Any nice reviews I have are all about the people work there. The hotel itself is outdated, the bedding could be just as old as the hotel itself. Sitting in the tub isn't a option but it's nasty to even shower there. They gave us a visit for 2 of the girls to the hotel restaurant because one of the girls were knocked over the head with a vent. They went for breakfast. This is LOUISIANA how do you mess up BREAKFAST! Then I leave and find out they over charged for the room I stayed in. Then charged me the duration of my whole stay for the room I did use because THEY want to put the 16yrd girls on a different floor than me. IN DOWNTOWN BATON ROUGE! The homeless people are the murderer rate in the area not on trip advisor or any other booking site BUT it's not located anywhere that you're gonna want a 15yrd girl wondering off alone. Let me find out that the Hilton supports trafficking, or money and profit before the safety of kids. When I was told we could all stay together I assumed they were in agreement and supported what I needed which was the safety of the kids. If I had kids running around that hotel unsupervised then that would have been my fault, my party asked to leave. My daughter's main birthday cake for this celebration was over $260 and she had 2 cakes. If I thought my stay was worth what I paid I wouldn't care. I would do anything for my kids, this just was not giving me THE HILTON experience I expected. It's more like a Motel6. They don't even have a microwave in the room.I left the room cleaned with the beds still made and un- slept in, and there were no problems with noise or anything else from the front desk about my girls. This was the worst hotel I stayed in anywhere. I tried to STILL make sure that the girls enjoyed themselves and that my daughter had a happy birthday BUT HER MAMA I was very disappointed. They had fun but even the kids complained about the smell, the dirty blankets, the shower and as you can tell my list goes on. If I could have just packed them ALL up and went somewhere nice I definitely would have. I did a lot to make sure her birthday was nice just to pick a trash hotel. The worst stains on the blankets showed themselves once we pulled the covers back to lay down. Stains that look like mold or old period on what should be WHITE comforters. The comforters are enough to make you want a refund!...
Read moreI am not sure how many good things I can come up with, but I will try. The River views - are amazing. The amount of drawers and places to put clothing is very adequate.
Now, for the negative ... The restaurant in the lobby - I decided to go there for breakfast on my first morning. Wrong choice - I got the breakfast buffet, which, other than the omelet station, is exactly like what they serve, for free, at other hotels. The omelet station was high enough so that the 'chef' cooking it was at mouth level for them, without wearing a mask...so they were breathing on your food as they cooked it, and talking over your food as well. And all this for the price of $27. Oh, and they don't take cash - cards only. $27 for something that I can get at any other hotel for free. Ridiculous.
Lack of customer service - when checking in, yes, greeted and checked in. When needing a question answered, all that were at the front desk were on their phones, and ignoring anyone that came near the desk. Then, when I finally got their attention, it was like I was an inconvenience to them. Also, when I asked for a late checkout, he was condescending and not very helpful. Also, when I asked about getting the shuttle to the airport, they were like, oh, the driver will be back but he may not go back soon - it's a checkout day for most of the guests that I saw - isn't that why you have 2 shuttles - so that you can make more trips back and forth? Again, I was an inconvenience to them. Also, 'free late check-out' is an hour extra? Not worth the hassle of asking then. And when my flight was canceled, I sat in the lobby to call the airline, and all I hear is the bartender telling the guests that if they gave a 5-star review, he would get $50. Sorry, but a 5-star review is based on my experience, not him begging for it.
Lack of the 'engineering' department understanding how things work - I was asked via text how to rate my stay thus far, after a day of being there. So, I was honest...the shower leaks all over the floor. So she stated that she could send an engineer up to fix the issue. Wanna know what they did? Moved the showerhead down so it wouldn't hit the door...I am not short by any means, but if their solution for the water going through an opening at the bottom of the door is to move the showerhead down, then they just want to fix it quickly and be done. Where they put the stream of the shower was into the side wall, at a height of about 4 feet - there is no way I could get any of my body cleaned like that. Oh, and I only figured out that someone had been there because there were boot footprints on the linoleum in front of the door. I never received a text saying that it had been completed.
With regards to the bathroom, the toilet had this message on it - was that meant for the people staying in the room, or was it something that 'engineering' or housekeeping needed to be told?
Next up, the television in the room - not adapted to stream at all, only a handful of stations that are on any basic cable subscriptions. Now, when I stay at a 'rival' brand hotel, I can plug in my Netflix, etc username and password to watch what I want via something I'm already paying for, and it's deleted when I check out. I am not sure why every hotel isn't doing this.
My fourth picture is of the desk in the room, which has scratches on the surface so the paint is gone. Also, when I was eating at the desk, where my arms were, paint was coming off my skin.
Overall, although I was there for an event and got the 'event pricing', it still cost me $700 for 4 nights and if you didn't have a car, you were stuck at the hotel with limited places to go and sightsee or enjoy. Oh, and if you rent a car or drive there, it's valet parking only for $37/night. And make sure you check your car after you get it back from them - in watch them almost crash into the garage door and fly around the corner and out of the garage as well. I will be leaving this review on Hilton's site as well, so that they can see how well they are keeping to...
Read moreThis review will be unique. I am not evaluating the hotel rooms or breakfast buffet—this review is intended for event planners considering the Hilton Capitol for large-scale events.
I coordinated a corporate retreat for over 90 people over the course of three days. I arranged for additional private meeting rooms separate from the large ballroom that served as our main conference space, totaling three full days of rentals and events. This involved managing multiple contacts at Hilton, including those responsible for reservations, banquet services, and audiovisual contracts. With so many moving parts, miscommunication can easily occur, and it was imperative that essential timings were carefully managed.
My 5-star rating reflects that all the understandable fears I had did not materialize. I can confidently say that without the efforts of Betty Wiles (Banquet Services), Joseph LeGrange (AV Director), and Monet C. (Sales Coordinator), my event would not have been nearly as successful. As a token of my appreciation for their patience and dedication, I would like to highlight each of them.
Betty exemplified professionalism and exceptional service. All the food provided was delicious, and she prioritized and accommodated dietary allergies effectively. Her staff was prompt, kind, and attentive to any needs that arose during the two-day event. Her communication leading up to the event was thorough and efficient. If I wasn’t impressed with her before the event, I certainly was afterward. Betty, thank you! You were a pillar of support during a hectic time. I know you were managing many other parties and events, I appreciate you always making me/my event feel like a priority.
Anyone who organizes a corporate event that depends on presentations understands how crucial audio-visual (AV) services are to its success. Joseph demonstrated outstanding leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities, all while maintaining incredible patience. If I could hire you to manage AV for every future corporate event, I definitely would.
Monet was truly an unsung hero during the event planning process. In addition to managing regular event logistics, I was also responsible for hotel reservations for over 90 attendees. Monet handled last-minute changes, random questions, and unusual requests with grace. She would often pick up the phone to ensure she fully understood the details of our requests, and she consistently emailed back within five minutes to confirm that she had received and comprehended the unique and detailed information. My only regret from this trip is not being able to thank her in person.
I recognize that the individuals mentioned above are there to assist customers in the ways I described. However, I'm not giving each of them a shout-out or five stars just for doing their jobs. These three people helped me—a first-time event coordinator—accomplish something I was initially terrified to tackle. Their patience, honesty, and expertise uplifted me throughout the process. This review might only serve to bring a smile to their faces, but I hope their leadership understands the positive impact they had on me...
