This was my second stay at your hotel as I have been staying at the Crowne Plaza for 2+ years and wanted to try the downtown hotels. The rooms, valet, and fitness center of your hotel are above average. However, the restaurant and bar need much improvement. On my first stay, on August 1, 2017, the food was good, but service was a little slow. However, the bartender who did double duty with helping at the front desk was very good and was great with the guests. He is a star and is a great representative of your hotel. My restaurant experience this past Tuesday, August 8, 2017, was much different. I would recommend you and/or someone on your staff review the security cameras from 7:30 PM until around 8:30 PM in the bar area. I ordered a salmon salad at 7:33 PM and waited for almost 1 hour before deciding to go upstairs to my room at 8:30 PM. The bar was without staff for over 40 minutes of this hour period. The bartender who placed my order at 7:33 PM was probably behind the bar for a 10 minutes in this hour period. There was a female who was working in the “snack area” who came over to the bar a couple times and was not helpful. A customer at the bar wanted a beer and your representative could not figure out how to open a beer bottle. Another customer had to open the bottle for this customer. It was very frustrating experience for myself and other guests at your hotel on Tuesday evening. The hotel representative who I met on my previous week visit came over came over to the bar from the front desk area and offered to help myself and the other guests. He recommended that instead of waiting that they would deliver it to my room. This happened between 8:45 PM and 9:00 PM. The food was good, but after waiting for over an hour, it was not a good experience. The bar and restaurant were not busy on Tuesday evening, but the service was slow and customer service was not good except for the gentleman who was there on both Tuesdays. In summary, there are many things to like about your hotel, but the bar and restaurant service needs much improvement. There is a demand for dining in downtown Baton Rouge, but if the service continues to be poor, your business will miss a big opportunity.
I will give your hotel another chance over the next two weeks, but may not spend money at the bar and restaurant unless the customer service improves. If I feel this way, I am sure there are other customers that you can...
Read moreI really like the fact that the hotel is so convenient to everything downtown and you can walk to nearly anywhere you want to go. My wife & I walked to the river that's a couple of blocks away, we walked to the old state capitol and several museums and restaurants nearby. At night we walked over a couple of blocks to an outdoor concert.
Now on to the hotel itself. It's very nice in the lobby area, we didn't use the restaurant/bar area, but it looked nice. The staff was very nice and helpful. The valet service was great. Everything looked orderly and clean. I did have a couple of issues with my room. 1) when you walk in and go to the living area there was mini-fridge right at the corner (by the wall) before you get to the bathroom. It seemed out of place being out in the floor versus put in a cabinet like you generally see. The exterior didn't quite look like what you'd expect from such a nice hotel. This mini-fridge was scuffed up and looks like it had a handle removed/missing. It was clean on the inside. 2) The floor drain in the shower drained SLOW. Before you finish a 7minute shower, you've got shower water up to your ankles (GROSS). 3) I didn't get a very good nights sleep because the A/C had a loud, hard "clank" EVERY time the compressor kicked on (more-so than what's normal). Since I like a cool room to sleep in, I run the A/C all night. That makes for a long night when it clanks every time you turn around. You never really could get into a deep sleep.
Now, would I stay here again? Yes, most likely, but I'd check the A/C before before I set my luggage down. Although I did have a couple of snafu's with the room, it wasn't a horrible experience and to be fair, I did not make my complaints known to the front desk. There were people in line behind me so I really didn't want to make a fuss in front of them? I would recommend this...
Read moreThis hotel is located in a great area close to some great restaurants. I will say the valet parking was a complete waste. The valet parked our car right next to the side of the hotel and when it was time to leave he just handed us the keys for us to go walk to our car. I thought that was weird and in the future, I think I'll just park it myself. The girl behind the front desk was incredibly friendly, nice and helpful. We checked in with no problems and went right to our room. We stayed in a two double bed room which was clean and comfortable. The beds are AMAZING. I need to know what brand of mattress they use because we all thought it was the most comfortable bed we've ever slept on.
We went to the bar/lounge for happy hour and a quick bite. This part of the stay was very awkward. The 2 guys behind the counter were talking to each other about how someone called in and they had to come take over their shift. At one point, we ordered a hummus app and a burger. About 10 minutes later, we were told there was no hummus and asked if we wanted to substitute something else. We quickly scanned the menu and settled on fries. We didn't realize, but the burger also came with fries. The guy at the bar didn't point this out to us, so we were then served an appetizer of fries along with a burger and fries. The whole bar/lounge experience was very underwhelming and it was awkward dealing with people who clearly didn't want to be there that day. I can completely understand not wanting to get called in on your day off, but to openly talk about it in front of customers is very off-putting.
Aside from the small hiccup with valet and awkward lounge experience, the stay really was great. I would definitely recommend staying here for the great location, comfort of the room and friendly front...
