Was looking for a nearby market to buy some fresh fruit and some other items to eat a quick dinner at the hotel and Matherne's was perfect. It was a Friday evening and the drive was only 10 minutes from our hotel and since it was the evening, downtown parking was not difficult and we actually found free street parking. They had a wide variety of items for a small city store. We found fresh cut-up pineapple and watermelon, hummus and pita chips, refrigerated Panera brand soup to heat up in the microwave, and some fresh sushi and some bottled beverages. Prices were not that bad considering we were shopping in a city market in downtown Baton Rouge, just a little bit more expensive. You can also take a quick walk over to the Mississippi river before leaving the downtown area. The store is very clean and safe and it actually has a huge wall safe in the store so this building must have been a bank at one point.

Excellent variety of items. They seem to have a little bit of everything. All the staff was really friendly as well. I enjoyed their wine selection and the sushi I picked up was good. They also have a salad bar, fresh sandwiches and good prices. I will definitely be back.

Local downtown market/mini grocery store had a little of everything one would need from hot food to groceries to wine, spritzers, Blue Bell ice cream to fruit/produce, meat and dry/canned goods. Friendly service and very convenient.

If your white they won’t bother you but if you’re BLACK and not looking like you work downtown in a business suite they gone WATCH your EVERY MOVE! It’s very uncomfortable and not only that degrading that you think certain minorities don’t have money to pay for their ITEMS😒 now it’s ONE thing to do that but not only are they STERIOTYPING they also have a lack of care and need for the less fortunate! Why block a PUBLIC RESTROOM for PAYING CUSTOMERS?! Why?! Because y’all don’t want to clean up behind people? Isn’t that what YOU get PAID to DO? So I’m confused. Its already hard enough the less fortunate have to fight for somewhere to sleep BUT to have to scramble to fight to use the RESTROOM is ANOTHER..like people can control when they need to go use the restroom. Lack of COMPASSION and for that I won’t ever spend...

Great customer service, but food was bad from deli. I've order food from the deli twice. 1st time was gumbo that tasted like a bowl of bland gravy and had no flavor. Since gumbo is highly area specific and I'm more used to gumbo from the prairies, I gave em a pass. But after ordering breakfast (how do you mess up breakfast) I won't order food from the deli again. I opened the order of bacon, eggs and grits to the overwhelming smell of old fish. I tried to eat it anyway, but the smell was there everytime I brought the food up to take a bite. Not sure if they used a dirty pan that had fish fried from the previous day to cook the bacon or the eggs, or if they used fish oil for the pan, but either way it wasn't worth $.50 let alone the inflated prices...
