This is the type of market I was hoping to find quickly when moving to Bend recently. It is fantastic. Everyone there knows everyone and seems to be having a good time. The products themselves reveal great deals on authentic sauces, staple food items and unusual goods.
Kast's Clue: Follow the smell of freshly-baked bread and walk past that counter (save for later) and find the back of the store on the left before the butcher -- who is amazing and has cuts you don't find at a Safeway, FM, Walmart, Whole foods, etc. -- to find the Mexican spice aisles. The little plastic packets with paper labels will change how you buy spices if you haven't used them before. They didn’t have pricing anywhere so the 12 year old girl running the register overcharged me (a white male) but when my Hispanic wife shopped here they gave her fresh bread for less than half the price. Another time I went in looking for milanesa and was told they were about to cut some in the back so I stood there and waited only to watch a man come out of the back, see me, walk back in, the lady comes back out and tells me they actually don’t have anymore. Did not see a price labeled but I figured they would be around 6 bucks. Found out at the real price at check out. Egg prices are dropping everywhere except here. Will still go back but...
