The theater itself is great. Unfortunately not all of the staff are on the same page. Multiple conversations with different staff at the box office explained, for sold out free shows, you can join a waitlist (also listed on the website) and you can also wait and be seated if there are no shows or if someone calls and cancels. A different lady at the door in not such a nice way said that is never the case, and while trying to clarify was very rude and abrupt essentially telling us that we were not told that. The representation and image you put out can make it difficult to support businesses like this. I hope they train that person in customer service, having decades of experience myself, it was severely lacking. The other folks have been very nice, but I also hope the theater can get their employees/volunteers on the same page. Will likely not return for a while and have opted out of the membership we planned on purchasing. We'll try again next year and see if things...
Read moreOn December 12th my son and i were downtown doing some Christmas shopping. I noticed the lights on in the Tower theater and saw the box office sign and somebody sitting at the desk. I was met at the door by the person sitting at the desk after trying to pull on the door to purchase tickets I was informed that "its best to go online". Everyday we're encouraged by local business to go and make a trip and open a door to patronize a local establishment. Literally the moment that I try to do that I'm turned away and told to go online. The irony of going to somewhere where people show up for live performances and being told that I should go online when somebody is literally standing right in front of me and I'm ready to purchase a ticket just seems crazy to me. I had full intention of purchasing four tickets to a Christmas related show between now and Christmas. It was an impulse that quickly passed after my interaction at...
Read moreThe facility isn't as ornate as I would have thought for a landmark theater. But when you consider it was built in 1940 (post depression/pre WWII), it's just right and well maintained. It's an intimate venue where you feel truly engaged with the performers.
The number of volunteers who keep it running is staggering for such a small community. Additionally, traveling to Bend for a show at the Tower offers amazing hiking, biking, food (900 Wall is a must try), and we happened to be there for the Fall Festival weekend.
Everyone we met, staff, tourists, and locals were all friendly and happy to share their experiences so you don't miss any of the good stuff.
If you're traveling to Bend by car, I recommend doing so during daylight hours. While the scenery is fine, those mountain turns in the dark would be truly terrifying! They're not well marked with reflective signs, and it's easy for your speed to get...
