My server, Elizabeth A. was excellent, she acted as waitress and hostess flawlessly and with a warmth and friendliness that’s hard to come by. The ATM outside wasn't working, and she offered to run down the street to see if the one at a nearby sandwich shop was working. That's service!! I really appreciated her offer, but I went myself instead (and ended up having to go to the 7-Eleven that was a bit further, but the entire thing took just 5 minutes). The Deluxe breakfast sandwich was very good... served with mayonnaise which is exactly how I would make my own! I was really hoping for a real fried egg instead of the square eggy thing they use (the yolk makes the sandwiches that much better in my opinion!) but overall it was a big sandwich that I could only eat half of. The smashed potato things were also good, though I was thinking they'd be more tasty ... maybe I'm going off of what I saw in "Somebody Feed Phil" when he went there (which is the only reason I drove an extra half hour to come here!). I also wish the prices were cheaper. I fully expect to pay 4x what I would pay if I bought food/cooked it myself, but I feel like the prices here are a bit more than they should be. I owned and operated a restaurant for 2 years and understand food and staff costs but charging 6x seems like too much. The side order of bacon was about what I get when I purchase the black label thick cut bacon at $10 package (about 20 pcs). So I'd be ok paying $2 per slice, but $9 for three slices seems high. The coffee, while ok, was also $4. I'd much rather pay $2 for a non-bottomless cup. Anyway, despite my thoughts on the pricing, the overall experience was still 5-star because I liked the ambiance, the servers were excellent (another server came by to check on me as well), and the bathroom was very clean! I loved the special hook on the wall so people could hang the bathroom key! :). Great service and ambiance is worth the price of...
Read moreTruly the best scrambled eggs I have ever eaten. Everything at this cash only, 15 seat (counter only) diner was delicious. Scrambled eggs have cheese in them but you don’t taste it, they are heavily peppered and so creamy you need to scoop them with your fork. The potatoes are small whole potatoes that are salted to perfection on the outside with a great crust/crunch, slightly crushed and creamy on the inside. Pretty sure the best breakfast potato I have ever had. The addition of Taylors Ham on their menu was a great surprise, you don’t find it everywhere but need to order it when you do. The omelet also delicious. It was a folded omelet which you don’t typically get at a diner, soft and creamy with the fillings inside. They have a different omelette each day. The English muffins are served toasted or griddled and the grilled are thin and extremely crunchy on one side and soft and buttery on the other. The pancakes are fluffy and tender, not as sweet as sone others I have had but I liked that. Corned beef hash is mostly meat with large pieces of shredded corned beef, delicious. The french toast, again think the best I have ever eaten, is crispy on the outside and so creamy on the inside. You can order lunch during breakfast hours. Did not try it but the fried chicken sandwich looked amazing. We did try the tuna melt. Ridiculously large with what looked like way too much lettuce, but if you are able to get everything in one bite the amount of lettuce is actually perfect because the tuna is so rich and creamy that the lettuce balances it. We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we ate breakfast here three days in a row. As we were exploring the town of Biddeford and meeting locals most asked, have you tried Palace? I can say nothing but positive things about this diner. Sounds crazy but truly fine dining in a 15...
Read moreCan't say enough good things about this place. We are big diner enthusiasts and tried our luck at 9am on a rainy Sunday when we saw this place on Google Maps coming back from Old Orchard Beach towards Boston and only waited 5 minutes before being texted that our seats were ready. Show up early though! Plenty of customers behind us were met with 40min wait times by 9:30am. The staff was incredibly awesome and welcoming on our way in. Be ready to add your name to a waitlist as there are only 15 stools in this very classic limited counter service dining car.....but don't worry, as they will text you when your seats are available so you can walk around or chill in your car but remember there is only a 5min grace period to show back up after the text! Also, this is a cash-only establishment but they have an ATM right outside the door for convenience. Parking is ample in the 0.1mile surrounding area.
Coffee was great by greasy spoon standards. Pricing is on the very high end for basic breakfast and lunch staples but with a place like this I consider it necessary as there is not a lot of turnover opportunity for the staff to get tips and these kind of historical restaurants deserve the money to persevere through as many generations as possible. Eggs over easy were cooked perfectly and their breakfast potatoes are unique in method and delicious. They even serve Taylor ham/pork roll for my native NJ brethren!
They sell merchandise too, stickers, mugs, shirts, the coffee they use, etc.
This place deserves a visit from any diner-obsessed old school personality and kudos to the owner for attracting such a great staff. We will definitely try to stop in...
