I went skiing for the first time today and it was a bad experience due to the rental equipment. I rented boots and skis at Breck Sports. They asked for my weight and height then brought out a pair of boots that were really tight. I couldn’t put my foot in. I asked for another pair. They brought me another pair that were also really tight. I had a hard time putting my feet in. I told the attendant that. He said ski boots weren’t meant to be comfortable. I told him they hurt my feet really bad. He said it would get better once I get on the skis and move around. Since it was my first time wearing ski boots, I couldn’t argue with him.
It didn’t get any better but much worse. After 2-hr morning session, my feet, especially the little toes, were in so much pain but I still contributed it me being a first timer. For the afternoon session, the ski instructor took us up the lift to practice on the Platter. On here, we went a bit faster and learned the J turn. Almost every time I turned, the boots slipped out of the bindings and I fell. The ski instructor saw that and checked the way I insert the boots on the skis then he asked another instructor to check and they both thought I inserted the boots into the skis properly. They were puzzled when they saw me falling because the boots popped out time after time. They said it was absolutely abnormal.
My ski instructor told me to demand a refund for the rental because of the malfunctioning skis and for the struggle I had to endure to put on and take off the tight fitting boots but I told him it was OK.
After about 7-8 times falling because the boots keep popping out in addition to the pain from the tight boots, I gave up and walked down the slope in the ski boots with agonizing pain every step.
When I came in to talk to the guy appeared to be supervisor/manager, he immediately said I had snow stuck under the boots and I put the boots on the skis wrong. I told him the ski instructors checked and didn’t think it was the cause. He said ski instructors think they know more about skis then they actually do. He said he assumed I wanted a refund. I told him I didn’t care for a refund. I just wanted them to check the skis so no one else would the same bad experience, especially a first timer.
Another employee came over. He said I didn’t wear it properly and demonstrated how the boots would pop out if inserted incorrectly when he turned the boot side way. He then did a proper insertion and turned the boot, it was about to pop out too 🤦‍♂️. He stopped and said the bindings on beginners’ skis were designed to pop out when the wearers fall to prevent damage to the wearers’ ACL. I told him I actually fell many times because the boots popped out, not the other way around.
When I returned my wife rental boots and skis a couple hours later because she spent more time skiing since she didn’t have problem with her rental, I asked him why my wife’s skis didn’t pop out as frequently. She was also a first timer and fell as many times as I did if not more. He didn’t have an...
Read moreI want to start off by saying that I am completely amazed and so happy that I had Daniel G, Taylor , S and Gray C helping me out today. Somehow, my son hanger pin broke on the way up to the top of the mountain. We weren’t able to get 3 inches because as soon as the bike got off the lift, it was broken. We went back down to the bottom, Taylor had the bike in his hands and was looking at it and reassured me that his top priority was getting us back on top of the mountain to have a good day. That was followed up by Taylor with making sure that he got us on a rental bike with Danial to make sure that we continued our day at the resort. I was just truly amazed at how intent they were on making sure that we had fun and that this was not an interruption that was gonna Ruiz our day seriously great kudos to Gray C for getting the bike up on the rack and starting to work. This is seriously an amazing team and I was just really truly amazed by how intent they were on making sure that our day was not interrupted and that we had a great day thank you Daniel. Thank you Taylor and thank you Gray for doing an amazing job. They are going to ship the hanger pin to where we live and have it installed there, in the mean time, they are letting us use the rental. You guys are seriously amazing!!!
So follow up while I was waiting for my son to get down the hill on the bike that they let us use Tess B. Came by and checked on us to see how we were doing and found out that we were going to be riding the next day, she decided to go ahead and let us use the bike rental again for the next day. This is something that goes truly above and beyond. We had planned this trip for almost a year and for it to be stopped so quickly was really gonna be heartbreaking for my son because his bike was, going to be out of action, and this location went above and beyond to make things happen again I can’t think this entire crew enough. They truly saved the day and really came through with their saying they just wanted to get us up on the mountain and see smiles on her face. I think the entire resort And Breck Sports and epic For hiring Such an amazing...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. First off, if you plan to demo gear with intent to purchase, do not even bother here. I was upfront my first day of demoing gear that I intended to purchase gear. I was helped by the assistant manager JD who made some great recommendations (the only person at any breck sports location who seemed to have any idea or insight about any of the gear and I greatly appreciated). He made recommendations for 3 different skis that I ultimately tried in multiple lengths until I found exactly what I wanted. I went in to purchase the ski in the length I wanted and was told they do not have any for purchase and wouldn’t be able to even get me one for 2 weeks at best. I asked about the other skis I tried and same story. I asked if they could refund me - they said no, you have a credit though to buy the skis and that should be sufficient. I explained that was completely useless to me for this trip and asked how they could make this right because they were not honest up front. I asked if I purchased the ski with the credit if there was a way they could comp a rental for the next 3 days of my trip or do anything else since this was a waste of both my time and money. The assistant manager (again, JD) said there is nothing he could do. Printed a receipt for me and shoved it at me and walked away. He offered no other manager to talk to and no possible solution other than to spend 1500 to buy a 800$ pair of skis. (Cost of renting for the remainder of the time plus cost of the skis.
Also, they don’t even sell boots if you’re looking for that as well.
Industry standard everywhere else I have ever demoed and purchased skis is to only let people demo something they can buy. They should have been honest up front that they didn’t have any of the options. Also, zero points for customer service. 4 out of 5 people I interacted with had zero insight into gear other than “it’s popular” or “it’s a good seller”
More than disappointed. This...
