In my mind, the Big Peach Running Company is the best place to buy a pair of running shoes in Atlanta, whether you’re an elite runner or a middle aged guy like me just trying to get in a few miles a week. I’ve purchased 2 pairs at the Town Brookhaven store In the past few months, one for me and another for my daughter.

Tom took care of us both times. In fact, I was so pleased with his expertise and the care he took in fitting me, that I made sure that he was at the store when I took my daughter in to buy her a pair. Tom is a very bright guy (an attorney by profession) and a running enthusiast who can do a 5k in 18 minutes. He knows the technology of running and running shoes cold.

Tom filmed my running form checking for pronation and watched me run around the store’s indoor track as I tried on one pair after another. I believe it was 9 pairs in all before I narrowed the hunt to a wonderful pair of Saucony’s. He must have spent nearly an hour with me and not much less time with my daughter.

Not once did I check the price of the shoes he pulled for me. Frankly I didn’t care to. I would have paid plenty extra for Tom’s expertise and service. Finding the right running shoe is not easy, but it’s critical for the sake of performance and to prevent injury. Needless to say, I was very pleased to find the price in line with what I would have expected to pay at a sports mega-store.

Like a planned downtown area, Town Brookhaven has a lot to offer for local Brookhavenites, whether it's easy family food options (Moe's, Newks, Which Wich, Flying Biscuit, Lucky Burger) or bars (Hobnob, Old Blind Dog), or you can always go to There, which is an awkwardly named but great little spot for food. Lots of dessert options, too — Yogurt Land or Marble Slab.

Tack on the other reasons you might go—Costco and Publix, namely, or LA Fitness if you're a member, and Town is always buzzing with activity.

Which brings up the only drawback which is that it can be very busy at it's peak hours and parking can be a drag, but then again, six years into it's existence and we've never been unable to park. I'd say we are probably in Town for some reason at least 2-3 times per week. It's truly a great, functional amenity...
