Oasit's serves the best shaved ice in the city (both texture & flavor)*. The sweetness level is perfect, not American level at all. I would actually say that the Shibuya toast is less sweet than the ice, if you were worried about ordering it. The croffles are also fantastic.
Additionally, the desserts here are detailed and imaginative. The shaved ices all have multiple components. For example, the Thai iced tea snow has salted foam, almonds, grass jelly cubes, and a soaked cake layer at the bottom! It is a full experience. I am excited to have the mango snow, as it incorporates sticky rice. The coconut snow special has crunchy water chestnut cubes with a chewy boba-like exterior. Taste and texture both are well-considered!
My favorite so far is the traditional Thai dessert, Ba Co Moi. It feels comforting and familiar, with nicely sized taro cubes. I will gladly eat the whole menu!
As a bonus, this is the only place in Boston that plays anime on the tvs instead of like, sports or whatever. It feels just like a cafe in Taiwan. There are many figures from popular anime like jujutsu kaisen and one piece displayed. They even have Lum from Urusei Yatsura and a Blue Period standee. I feel very at home here.
Please go visit this place!!!
*The only comparable shaved ice experience I had was at Meet Fresh, when they collaborated with a Michelin Star chef to make a limited time Thai ice dessert. I do not think it is available anymore, and the one at Oasit's is the same level of tasty (with different...
Read moreIncredible little hole in the wall. I'm a big shave ice fan, and I think they've got the best shaved ice in town - the ice is smooth and flavorful, and I'm super impressed by how they layer in different textures. I've had the coconut shaved ice special and the Thai shaved ice. The two shaved ices had different texture ingredients in it, so the difference isn't just in the flavor, but the entire eating experience as well! The Thai shaved ice had tea-soaked cake and grass jelly, as well as salted milk foam on top. The coconut shaved ice had Boba-coated water chestnuts and coconut jelly, making it very refreshing.
I think the only shaved ice I've had that compares to this is when Meet Fresh had their limited time only Thai iced tea shaved ice designed by a Michelin star chef...! I'm absolutely planning on going back and trying all of their shaved ice items.
Their croffles and butter toast are also very tasty. They have the perfect balance of crispy outside and soft inside. I don't like desserts to be too sweet, so I got the pandan custard flavor for both the croffles and butter toast - and they were both perfect.
Also a shout out to the Ba Co Moi for those who like more traditional Asian desserts. The balance of the warm grains base and cold ice cream was perfect, and once again they knocked it out of the park with the texture balance.
Lastly, I'm a big fan of the friendly and casual atmosphere of the shop and the super friendly staff. I'll definitely...
Read moreGreat option for late-night dessert in Coolidge Corner.
Visited Oasit's on a bustling Saturday evening after dinner. Despite the crowd, we were able to snag the last available table — a good thing too, as a line began forming shortly after. With few late-night dessert spots in Coolidge Corner, this place felt like a good find.
The cafe's ambiance seemed heavily influenced by Japanese anime culture. Figures and themed decor added a charming touch that enhanced the space's character. The dessert prices were surprisingly reasonable, and each dish arrived with impeccable presentation.
My friend and I opted for two of their most popular desserts — Thai Tea Snow and Pandan Toast — and both were very good. The toast had perfectly crispy edges and was topped with pandan cream that struck a nice balance and not overly sweet. Simple yet satisfying. The Thai Tea Snow was a refreshing treat; though the "snow" particles were icier and larger than typical milk-based shaved ice, it still provided a pleasant, lightly sweetened flavor (exactly what we expected).
For drinks, I tried the sweet coconut cold brew. It was my first time experiencing the combo of coconut water and cold brew, and the result was unique. The slight mineral, salty aftertaste reminded me of a salt latte — unique, mildly sweet, and subtly savory. While interesting, it's not something...
