We climbed Mt. Battie from.thr trailhead outside the park entrance, which is in the city. It warns you that you will be scrambling on rocks, and you will be. It is quite steep, and there are mostly rock boulders. This is not for the meek. In the misty rain it was slippery. I would suggest you have on running shoes or boots with good traction.
My guess is that the view is great, but it was super foggy. Also they have the tower at the top closed, which was disappointing. We worried about the steep climb down, so instead did the mesalands and nature paths down. However, it is a lot longer. It was a very lovely hike on nice trails through the woods.
It is a beautiful park, and you get the added bonus of blueberries bushes along the way.
