We drove from Costa Mesa to San diego on a Friday afternoon. We were eager to stop at the beach along the way and see the Pacific Ocean. As the sun was almost ready for sunset, we hurried to the nearest beach. We luckily found this beach just in time. We parked in a public lot connected to the shoreline. I jumped out, kicked off my shoes and put my feet in the sand. This was a huge accomplishment for me to be here. I never thought I would actually see this with my own eyes. The crisp, salty scent of the ocean air hit my nose and I smiled instantly. I was in awe!! The water was so blue with the whitest caps I've ever seen. The waves crashed so perfectly against the sparkly sands of Tamarack Beach. You can see to the other side of the world it seems. Such beautiful scenery here. The hills of Hollywood can be seen in the distance and the beautiful San Diego coast to the other side. This place was nothing short of captivating. I sat there on the chilly coastline and let my hair blow in the wind and contemplated life. This was much needed nature therapy. I cried as I sat there watching a boat in the coastline. The sunset was nothing g short of magical and dont think we could have picked a better place to watch our first sunset. Something I could never ever forget.

One of my favorite beaches in San Diego County, its not ridiculously over populated or crowded depending on the time of year and day. Summer months when school is out is if course, a but more busy, but the beach is very much enjoyable and calming. The beach spans a good part of Carlsbad and is surrounded with cute shops, restaurants, parks, lodging, and a cute walkable downtown area. Almost everything else is within walking distance. When I lived in Orange County, Carlsbad was one of the places I’d venture off to, as it’s a good place to visit to refresh, relax and rejuvenate, and it was only a short 45 min drive on the 5 south. Its a nice little day trip and I really miss having easy and quick accessibility to a city like Carlsbad.

Tamarack, Carlsbad, CA. It was a beautiful day today in Southern California. I'm sure there are places set at times are as beautiful as the So Cal beaches... I'm not going to argue that point. But since I mentioned it there is something that Cali has that is worth mentioning. The drive from Oceanside on PCH to San Diego into La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach all the way down to Point Loma. The crowds always seem to be mellow. That is what's Tamarac is all about. Great food all along the drive. Especially... well I can't say that because it's all special but I will say that there are some great eateries on the beach. It's all worth checking out. These pictures were taken today and they are out of the California sunset.

I've lived in Carlsbad over 30 years. Tamarack beach is pretty popular but it is more for surfers and beach watchers. Sitting on the sand watching the waves come in is pretty amazing because the sandy beach sits higher than the water so it's like being on a mini bluff with a fantastic view. I wouldnt recommend this beach for kids or people that just want to dip their toes in the water or even mosey around in the water up to their waist. Unfortunately, only a few steps out, you will find yourself stepping downward almost as if you are stepping down from a berm and there are rocks everywhere under your feet and the feeling is very unstable. The rocks roll under your feet and it's just not a great feeling if a wave hits you. I boogie board all the time but this isn't the place to do it. But of you want to watch the sun go down, or kick back in a chair and enjoy the sights and sounds of the waves hitting the shore, this is the perfect place. There are public restrooms and showers nearby, which is good. There is a 10 dollar fee to park all day there, which isnt so bad, but if you want to boogie board or have family time, go down to Oceanside Harbor Beach. Plenty of sand and very user friendly! Great place...
