Parking, while seemingly getting close to capacity at the train station lot where I parked, appeared adequate overall. I had a few hours to burn so I made a stop at Carlsbad State beach. I showed the ranger my Golden Bear pass which allows me free day use at any State Beach or state park. I was told they didn't offer day use at Carlsbad State beach. It was only for overnight campers. He he told me I could only come in if I was camping there or knew somebody who was camping there and denied me access. I drove down the coast to Torrey Pines beach and asked their ranger the same question. He told me indeed they do have day usage at Carlsbad State Beach and he didn't know why that ranger would deny me access. I also called The State Beach phone number and ask them the same question. That person also told me that I should have been allowed access to the park just by showing my card. Even their website gave me the same information that I may enter any State Beach just by showing my card. So I wonder why this ranger would not allow me...
