Overall this is a very nice hotel. And the location could be one of the best in Carlsbad for the price. Right across the street from the state beach entrance. The rooms were clean, quiet, and our balcony had an ocean view. The front desk staff (Andrew & others) were pleasant and helpful as were all the housekeeping and maintenance staff we encountered working hard to keep the property looking good. The one downside we encountered was the lack of WiFi signal strength INSIDE the room. Front desk directed us to call a third party call center to diagnose the issue but nothing was done to resolve it. Not the biggest issue, but the first amenity they list on their website is high speed internet.

We love this place! We have stayed many many times and keep coming back. We reserve the family suite when we travel with our kids, lots of room even with a roll away in living room area. Breakfast is basic but fills us up and you can't beat the views of the ocean from the eating area, we even saw dolphins swimming by while eating breakfast! They provided boogie boards, lawn chairs, umbrellas and towels for beach which saved us a ton of room in our vehicle! The beach entrance is literally across the street, tons of great places to eat, shop or grab a beer within minutes of walking! This pic was taken from the 2nd story lounge deck.

The proximity to a wonderful state beach and to good restaurants with decent shopping. Close enough to visit San Diego with its many attractions. We visited Lajolla cove with its amazing sea life. (Go on low tide). The Safari park is 35 minutes away. Lego land is 15 minutes away. Carlsbad had many reasons to visit. The hotel itself is clean, but a bit dated. We found it a very central and enjoyable experience. The hotel did charge an up-fee to park even though we had an extended stay and are "Ellite Members" This is the only Best Western that I have found that charges extra to park. The fee is not easily understood at booking.

From the moment I stepped foot onto the premises the ENTIRE staff treated you like "you mattered". Let me name the amazing staff I encountered- Heather was so kind and reassuring of contacting us when a room was ready (early check in). Kevin & Apolinar were amazing to my family and thier needs. Andrew was a Gem in helping our minor fix in bathroom and fireplace. The ladies up front were extremely genuine in your complete happiness and comfort during your stay they were amazing (Liana, Gladys, Manuela, Elva) they didn't miss a beat in making sure everything was perfect. IT was so GREAT.. that I needed to return the following week, and I brought my parents to enjoy such an experience with us again at a VERY.. nice relaxing mini vacation with thier grandkids. AGAIN- there was NO disappointment! They are just as excited to return.||THIS location is amazing for the price you pay for comfort and ease of enjoying the beach life. They seriously provide almost everything you need to enjoy the beach from the chairs. umbrellas and EVEN boogie boards for the kids. Plus, with secured camera parking you seriously NEVER have to leave the premises to enjoy ALL the amenities of beach life and wonderful dining. I used to stay at another location when we flew in to visit the grandparents- (Pacific Beach- to be EXACT- but after having to clean my OWN room with one of THIER hand towels I was CHARGED $40 for it!! |Like seriously?- I had to cancel my next stay with them, this time prompting me to fully inspect ANY room and report it immediately vs just taking care of such a minor task ) BUT.. after the royal treatment here.. the views.. the wonderful staff.. the amazing upkeep rooms- Manuela gave me an impeccable clean room upon my first visit and she was prompt with cleaning which made my early check in AMAZING! , I can't fathom to go anywhere else. |This was worth the price, it's worth the less stress of packing extra unneeded items that are provided with ease. I can't rave enough about this location. BUT the STAFF.. is who truly made this review worth WRITING ABOUT! We will be returning. My Parents, my family etc. We do ALOT of traveling for Competitive Cheer so we have learned a thing or two- But I have learned after this treatment to NOT expect LESS!||IF you're looking for the best- yet affordable stay location (as most families are!!), TRUST me this place has it ALL. I know searching for room stays and pricing can be exhausting, but I can assure you.. The AMENITIES that they provide aside from the generic hotel experience - DOES NOT compare to what the staff here does for you. My Parents truly enjoyed "Apolinar" (staff member) his interaction with my parents was beyond amazing. I truly loved his genuine desire to help and make others feel welcomed. My other true winner was Andrew Prosser, he was truly attentive on ALL our needs and corrected anything he felt wasn't satisfactory, without the need to ask. He REALLY does care about HIS guests and thier comfort. Lastly, before I left my first stay here - I immediately booked another stay with my parents and Heather Scott was another person great to mention, she made sure my parents room was relatively close by for our next stay. She was BEYOND accommodating. How can anyone go wrong with this LOCATION? LIKE.. I get maybe saving the extra $$ here and there- but I can assure you.. staying here makes the stress level go down and the PRICE truly worth any of the...

I don't leave many reviews, but the staff here earned five stars. All were friendly and helpful. We showed up early and our room wasn't ready (as expected). The friendly lady at the front desk gave us parking pass and a key to the common areas so the kids could get to a bathroom. She took our number and called us back when the room was ready.

The friendly man who checked us in made us aware of all the beach stuff available to be checked out, including chairs, towels, umbrellas, sand toys, and body boards. All were clean and initially sand free. When returned, they can be left outside and the staff cleans them off.

When carrying our suitcases in, a nice gentleman noticed me struggling with multiple suitcases and helped me get them to the elevator. Turns out he was with maintenance and was fixing a hole in the wall outside our door.

After coming back from the beach covered in sand, we quickly went through all our towels. The same front desk lady who initially greeted us delivered new towels to our room.

The next morning, my son spilled his juice during breakfast. The lady overseeing breakfast cheerfully cleaned it up.

It is rare to interact with that many hotel employees who all seem happy to be helpful.

The location is great, right across the street from the beach and within easy walking distance to restaurants. The breakfast was good (eggs, bacon, potatoes, muffins, toast, cereal, juice, coffee), and the indoor/outdoor seating area with a view of the ocean is very nice.

The building itself is clearly older, as is obvious from the number of little steps that are not present in more modern buildings and make accessibility a concern for many rooms. The rooms themselves are large and each have their own AC unit. The bathrooms are not vented but have a high window. They stayed relatively humid. There is an additional fee for parking, which seems to be the norm for the area. Perhaps the only other suggestion I would have would be a printed channel guide in the room, or a TV system with a guide, as blindly flipping through channels one at a time isn't great.

I would definitely stay here again if I was looking for a room with easy beach access, and all the staff should probably...

Disappointing Best Western experience to the fullest degree! My family’s experience here has been horrible, 4th of July weekend 2020. It started with the gentleman I spoke with on the phone to make my reservation being SO rude, he took my credit card information 3 separate times. Then the DAY of my reservation I get an email from the manager Bill Bradford saying that if I don’t give them my cc info by noon they will cancel my reservation. Quickly responding, I called and gave it to a female with better customer service skills, so we were still excited for our trip, but didn’t know that telephone experience would label our room as “difficult customers.” And God forbid you ask for more than the max amount of towels for your room (which for the record is 4), sorry that women use more than one towel in the shower. Unspoken breakfast policy: you are only allowed ONE ITEM per person for breakfast! ONE! And the women, Katie, was SO rude as she marks on her little tally sheet you received your meal. I called the front desk to complain, as one of the reasons I choose Best Western is for their free “unlimited” breakfast accommodations. I spoke with Louise Benjamin and she was an absolute GOD SEND, someone that truly knows hospitality! She was so sweet and went and spoke with Katie who told her that she never said that we could only have one item, essentially calling me a liar. In addition, we were kicked off the deck where they advertise “the beach view” at 10pm and no where does it state that in their rules! I have stayed at multiple Best Westerns across various states during the COVID-19 pandemic, so this review has nothing to do pertaining to that because I have received nothing but exceptional service at all the other Best Westerns. Atrocious, unapologetic, money pinching, bad management customer service experience is what I see! I don’t know how to give it a negative rating because it doesn’t deserve 1 star! I recommend staying at the Marriott...
