We had lunch here, and were very unimpressed. The waitress seemed to be completely uninterested in her job, and food was less than mediocre. The menu shows that they have wine, by the glass or by the half bottle. When we asked what wines they had, her answer was "Red." We asked about white wine, and she made some comment about their not having much wine. I asked about what beers then had, and she did list some mass-market beers, and an IPA. So we ordered a mimosa, the IPA, and eggs benedict. The mimosa was very generous in quantity. The IPA turned out to be a Lagunitas IPA, which pleased me. I think she could have mentioned that it was a Lagunitas. The eggs benedict were very disappointing. The eggs were perfectly poached, but the rest was unworthy. The English muffin was flat and rubbery, the Canadian bacon was such a thin slice as to be undetectable, and the hollandaise sauce was sweet! I've never had, or heard of, sweet hollandaise sauce. And there was no hint of lemon to it. We had to ask for lemon wedges in an attempt to rescue our eggs benedict, but it was in vain. It seems as though there's no desire to provide an enjoyable experience for the customers. We...
Read moreThis is a quaint little spot right smack in the middle of the village. I frequent here for breakfast often. I traditionally get their corned beef hash and eggs with salad instead of potatoes and fruit instead of toast. I was SO bummed to find out they no longer serve the hash! So..... I ended up getting myself a dragonflies bowl. It was packed with flavor, not bitter, hearty helping of fruit, and a perfect touch of honey and bee pollen.
The service here is great. I have a couple of my favorites who are so kind, engaging, always smiling, and give great attention to taking care of me. There are a couple of others who are a little more transactional, and although they aren't rude, they are short, to the point, not engaging, and not smiling. I always cross my fingers and hope I don't the the 2 latter....
I would recommend visiting, as it is a great breakfast spot. They have great coffee and great espresso drinks (much better than the 2 corporate coffee chains across...
Read moreWe stayed at Carlsbad Inn and walked over to the Daily News Restaurant. The waitress that seated us was not willing to accommodate us a table location of our choice. She gave us all kinds of excuses that we would wait because the waiter would be over loaded in coming to our table and we would be waiting a very long time to be served. Her attitude stunked. The restaurant needs to let this person go! My girlfriend owns a time share next door and this same waitress is rude! The staff is obviously more concerned with entertaining themselves, the restaurant is messy and people are packed in like sardines. It appears they want the business but customer service is very poor! We ended up at Don's Country Kitchen. Excellent food, great prices and fantastic customer service! Stay away from The Daily News Restaurant! Get the exercise in by walking to another restaurant in town that will provide...
