Not only has the building been poorly maintained, there are things that are flat out dangerous. Mainly the stairs leading down to the rink...the covering is horribly warped and a tripping hazard as is a few spots in the main floor. We watched a few people trip on the same spot. Rental skates are also poorly maintained, laces on all four pairs of skates we rented were about to break. We also watched them putting skates back without spraying any sort of disinfectant inside them. We arrived at the beginning of open skate and the ice was in terrible condition. It never even looks that bad at the END of open skate at The Forum in Fishers. There was a teenage boy who worked there that was on the ice that I assume was there to monitor. However, he was more a danger than anything. He was more concerned with flirting with a group of young girls (who were inappropriately to young for him to be flirting with in the first place). He was showing off to a degree of being dangerous to the other skaters and purposing spraying ice on people, including young children. It was total mass chaos with people skating which ever way they wanted, kids flat out sitting on the ice, young boys literally dog piling each other all over the place. We went to complain when children began using the little walker looking things that are meant to help kids learn to skate as weapons...hitting each other and even throwing them. The place was being completely ran by teenagers and when we told the young girl that something needed to be done, that it was down right dangerous, she just looked at us blankly and said, "Uh, ooookay?" We won't ever return. I'll drive to The Forum in Fishers were it's properly maintained and dangerous horse play is...
Read moreThe first two times we came here, it was fun. Not so much this time around. “Open Skate” wasn’t really “open”. There were several skaters there taking lessons with an older couple, who were constantly jabbering at the people there for open skate. As we were getting ready to get on the ice, there was a man at the desk complaining about it. They eventually sent a staff member out - he was maybe 15. Talked to my daughter twice about using the skate helpers. The first time she was a bit close to the people taking lessons - fair - she was probably too close. The second time, he told her she was too old, this was after 40 minutes mind you. At the same time, the skaters taking lessons were all breaking the top three rules that are supposed to get you kicked out - skating backward, weaving in and out of other skaters, and going too fast. Not one word was said to any of them, despite several, as in most of the open skaters, lining up to tell the staff member about them. We ended up leaving a few minutes later. Talked to the kid at the desk. He said that they sometimes have lessons during open skate, where the middle of the rink is off limits. Nothing in the rules about that, but I pointed to the kid taking lessons who was skating backward, weaving between other skaters, on the outside of the rink. He basically said, “oh well, just email us about it”. What a...
Read moreBig NO NO to take Ice skating class at Carmel Ice Skadium if your kids are beginners. I sent my 4 years old to take the beginner class at Carmel Ice Skadium. He was pretty scared of standing on the ice at the 1st class. The coach (30-40 years old women with Blonde hair) ignored my kid without providing any instruction or help. She just continued her teaching with other kids. I had to ask other staff to get help or instruction. The class is almost done and the coach finally approached us saying "If your kid doesn't want to step onto ice, there is nothing I can do about it" This is very UNPROFESSIONAL way. For a 4 years old and the 1st time, the teacher or "Coach" is supposed to encourage kid to have a try rather than just ignoring. I tried to negotiate with staff there. Their attitudes are Horrible. Therefore, I would NOT recommend any parents to send your beginner kids to take ice skating class at Carmel Ice Skadium unless either they replace the current teaching staff or you find your way to teach your kids to learn ice skating. It is a waste of money...
