Don't normally post reviews BUT I felt compelled to share my family's experience at Iza. First my daughter who graduated from UNC ( with HONORS) decided to go here and felt she couldn't make a reservation for 10 people and asked me what to do. I sent an email through the website and inquired about making a reservation for my daughter graduation dinner. Didn't know what to expect and this is where the story begins! Mr. Yung the chef and owner called me directly and congratulated my daughters accomplishments and told me he would make the reservation and make it a very special time for us. We finished graduation early and sent him a text if it was possible to move it up an hour. He said he'll take care of it and had a section ready for us when we got there. Our server Ariana came over and welcomed us and took our drinks orders. I asked if it would be ok for me to get a soup while we were choosing our entree. She didn't hesitate and in less than a minute I had a soup in front of me and Chef Yung! He greeted my entire family and told us not to order appetizers because he's working on something special for us. Btw...he called my daughter and asked her what she didn't like prior to us getting there! Out came the drinks and we gave our orders for the entrees. Right afterwards we saw everyone in the restaurant staring towards the entrance to the kitchen and wondered if something happened? That's when Chef Yung and a team came out with not one but two beautiful boats of the most delicious, mouth watering, flavorful, delightful, decorated food we ever had in a sushi restaurant! He literally explained every little detail about the items. I wanted to include my daughter's expression but she didn't want me to post her picture because she is very shy. A smile so big and eyes so wide of pure joy! He saw me trying to take a picture and grabbed my phone and made a beautiful video which I couldn't figure out how to get it on here. All I heard after that was oh my god, yummy, wow, incredible, delicious, this is melting in my mouth, how did he cook this, what did he use to make the sauce, and it continued through the entire evening! After he brought out our entree he told us about the new restaurant he's opening next door called LA which he named after is dad who recently passed away. He asked if we wanted to see it and my daughter jumped out her chair and was so excited to know how close she lived to the best sushi restaurant and chef in the Carolina's. I'll end this by saying THANK YOU SO MUCH CHEF YUNG FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE EVENING AND MAKING MY DAUGHTER'S GRADUATION DINNER A MASTERPIECE! Sorry about the caps but tears are filling my eyes as my daughter sacrificed her childhood and to have here smiling all evening and thanking me made me want to express my appreciation for Mr. Yung! I am eternally grateful for the hard work and relentless effort you placed in cooing our meal to perfection and present it with your kindness attached with your heart and soul in it! I will buy all of my real estate clients a house warming gift that they will never forget as well! Cảm ơn...
Read moreChef Yung is making a mark in the culinary world, crafting memorable dining experiences through his restaurant creations. My wife and I recently visited his establishments, Iza Whiskey & Eats and La Montana, showcased his passion and skill. An incredible moment which blossomed from a surprise dinner and a privilege to be hosted by him.
Iza Whiskey & Eats offers a vibrant elegant look. The restaurant's modern Japanese decor and tranquil ambient sounds create a peaceful atmosphere. A standout dish was the scallops, seared with a golden-brown crust and a melt-in-your-mouth taste. The u10 scallops were complemented by a freshly made uni butter saffron sauce and a shiso pesto, striking freshness . The sashimi, nigiri, and sushi rolls are also highly recommended, featuring incredibly fresh, top-quality fish sourced from intercontinental waters. What truly makes the restaurant shine is the impeccable hospitality provided by the staff. Every team member greets and serves with smiles and professionalism. Chef Yung and his fiancé show priceless dedication, passion and love for what they cherish to not only make diners proud, but their family. This was written from our personal experience which we warm heartedly thank him and his fiance plus staff. Second handedly, based on a decade of hospitality experience in both corporate and leisure settings, complemented by knowledge gained from two prestigious institutions: Cornell and Johnson &...
Read moreIt's exciting to have a restaurant of this caliber establish itself in Carrboro/Chapel Hill.
We were served by Dat, who had informative food recommendations, delivered prompt service, and made accommodation for our outdoor seating arrangement.Yung, the owner, also came by to make sure that we were fully tended to. The courtesies were appreciated.
For an appetizer, my partner and I ordered the Ishiyaki BBQ with A4 Wagyu beef. The app is served with a hot stone and Yung was very helpful in demonstrating how to sear the Wagyu to best enjoy it!
For an entree, I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. It has now slid into the highest rank in my personal ramen tier for the NC triangle area! I believe it has potential to be the best, yes even better than M KOKKO, but I'll leave that to the masses to decided. The pork broth was rich with flavor, and the pork and vegetable contents were divine. The noodles were full, thicc, and had that made from scratch quality mouth feel. I found myself recounting my ramen experience with the same pleasurable ineffability of that which characterizes a good psychedelic trip.
Thank you Iza, I am looking forward to...
