On September 25th, after 8 p.m., my family and I went to the Champlin Mann Theater and experienced what I strongly believe was racially targeted treatment by one of the staff members. This was not the first time; I had a similar negative encounter with the same employee on a previous visit. I regret not getting his name, but he is easily identifiable by his bright, washed-out bleach hair dye (very bright almost white hair).
During my first visit, this same employee treated my family and me with suspicion and disrespect, questioning us in a way that made me feel singled out because of our race and religion. When I returned to the theater later, I personally witnessed a white customer walk in without being asked to show a ticket. Moments later, however, the same bleach-haired employee stopped my brothers and me and demanded to see our tickets. This felt intentional and discriminatory, especially given our prior experience with him.
Inside the theater that night, I found a walkie-talkie that was disrupting the start of the movie. I brought it to the front desk and politely identified myself as "the girl from the other night" to let the employee know about my previous experience. I calmly expressed that I felt racially targeted by his actions, both on that earlier occasion and again that night, when he stopped my family but allowed a white customer to pass unchecked. Instead of apologizing or acknowledging my concerns, he dismissed me, repeatedly saying "go ahead and report me."
At no point did I raise my voice or act disrespectfully, I simply asked for an apology or some understanding of the impact of his actions. Instead, his coworker, a white woman, also engaged in what felt like racially biased behavior by questioning my sister about whether her water bottle was "paid for," despite it clearly being a personal water bottle from home.
Overall, the way we were treated felt racially targeted, dismissive, and unprofessional. We left the theater feeling uncomfortable, disappointed, and disrespected. I truly hope the Mann Theater takes this seriously and implements changes to ensure all patrons--regardless of race--are treated equally and with respect. At this time, my family and I do not feel...
Read moreI live about 5 minutes from this theatre, and I decided to check it out a few weekends ago (usually I drive a bit further to AMC, but I don't know why i did that, but now I'm glad I have). The prices were moderate for a Saturday afternoon showing. Not the most expensive in the area, but not the least expensive either. The chairs to not recline, and the arm rests are immovable, so definitely not the most comfortable theater experience. Snacks were expensive, but not the most expensive I've seen in the area.
Other than being a mediocre experience, the reason I'm giving a 1 star review is because our projector broke/failed/no one started our movie, for about 20 minutes after the slated start time. I was seeing Dr. Strange on 11/12 at 1pm, and the screen froze on a Chevy advertisement for about 10 minutes at 1pm. Finally someone left the theatre and talked to a manager/clerk and they started working on it. At about 1:20, the previews started. Look, I get it. You've probably got an irresponsible middle-school kid running the projectors. Or maybe the bulb burned out, or someone just forgot to start the show. It happens. BUT, you need to do something about it. When you make me sit in a movie theatre for 20 minutes staring at a Chevy logo while 80s funk/jazz plays, you can't expect me to leave happy. No manager came and apologized. No free drink/popcorn (there were only like 6 people in the theatre total!), no free movie tickets, no apology - nothing. Heck, you could have even given us a 1/2 off admission to draw us back and still make a profit on us! But no, we got stiffed. I won't be returning to this theatre, even though I could easily bike to this location. I'll keep trekking out to Arbor Lakes or Coon Rapids AMC, pay a little more, but have a good,...
Read moreI usually have a pretty good experience here, but my last two visits here hasn’t been too pleasant. The girl working concessions, Lexi S gives me an off vibe.
My first encounter with Lexi S, I was in line, and her lane was open. I was eyeing her to see if she was ready to help me. As soon as a caucasian person got in line behind me, she said to the person behind me that she can help them. I brushed it off.
My second time encountering her was today. I was in line for my usual pretzel bites w/ cheese and whatnot. Lexi S said she can help the next person in line, which was me. I stepped over to her lane and she took my order. She was pretty nice and friendly about it, so I was thinking maybe the first time was all in my head. There was another girl standing next to her, Olivia S. Olivia just stood there, not budging, but kept looking over at me. I just brushed it off.
There was another person in back of me with her 4 children. She puts in her order for herself, as well as her children. They get their food before me and get this — Oliva S gets right to helping out! I waited about 10 mins for my stuff, but Oliva S and Lexi S both took off elsewhere. The movie that I was going to see, was starting soon. I, then stepped up and asked someone else to help me with my order. I did not get her name, but thank you so much! She was quick to it and got everything to me, so I was able to catch my movie in time.
Lexi S & Olivia S: I’m not sure what you guys may have against me, but I did not appreciate how I...
