I feel compelled to update my review based on my experiences as a member over the last 4 months. To be clear, from opening through the end of 2019, I would have given LifeTime Charlotte a 5-star review. Also, to be clear, currently my 1-star review is only because Google does not allow 0-star or negative-star reviews.
Latest issue:
Emails to confirm registration in a class ✅ Emails to confirm modification to registration in a class ✅ Emails after the class with workout stats ✅ Emails when the member misses a class to remind about the no-show policy ✅ Emails members registered in a class to notify that the class is cancelled due to a tropical storm ❌
LifeTime also recently removed Apple Fitness+ from the membership (despite bragging in email that they were among the first to offer it in 2020), making it more difficult to complete a workout at home when classes are cancelled unannounced due to inclement weather.
At least my instructor always shows up, or announces in advance when he won’t be there. My wife has had a yoga instructor show up late once and no-show another time, with no announcement in advance. Moat recently, she was told that the instructor was “on the way” but after 30+ minutes of self-directed yoga with no instructor, she went home.
The cycle studio has had numerous cycles with malfunctioning or nonfunctioning displays for months. The instructor is good-natured about it, designing workouts that render the displays optional. One session, someone else from the staff told a sob story about how the bikes did not hold up well with all the movement outdoors during COVID. The club had re-opened in mid-2021…. we are in late 2022. Stop using COVID as an excuse.
The tennis policies are abysmal. After some time on a waitlist, my children were signed up in May, but we were told that there is NO make-up policy. The monthly tennis charge is billed regardless of whether the children attend.
At the end of August, one of my children had a serious injury (not at LifeTime) which may necessitate a root canal. I called the next day to request that my child’s tennis lessons be suspended while we waited to hear more about the prognosis. Instead, LifeTime dropped my child’s enrollment entirely. Again, no notifications. I only noticed this when the billing amount was less the following month. When I called to inquire, I was told that they would “give preferential treatment” on getting my child re-enrolled when the time came (which I interpreted to mean my child would again be placed on a waitlist).
When I went to disenroll my other children from tennis, I was told to complete a form (in person). Yet, it took my responses to an automated member email survey to have them removed from tennis; they had remained in the system for weeks with reservations (and presumably billing, had it gone past the 1st of the next month).
Original review (May 2022):
Great facility; however their pricing leaves much to be desired. I had put my membership on hold in mid-March 2020 (before the COVID shutdowns) for personal and medical reasons, and maintained digital-only membership until May 2022. That digital-only membership ($15/month) was supposed to guarantee pre-on hold pricing when I re-activated full membership. I re-activated on May 8, 2022, at the 2020 rate. 12 days later, I was notified of an 11% rate increase to take effect on June 1. Not the way to treat customers who have been continuously enrolled as members since the site was under...
Read moreLifetime took down one side of the basketball courts, for pickle ball, which is not fair for basketball players who are trying to shoot around and get little cardio in, basketball courts are over crowded, kids are trying to play with grown up and they don't get a chance to play, can't even enjoy basketball because they are try to accommodate for pickle ball, they could of used so much other space for pickle ball, some of us joined the gym for basketball where we can shoot around and get our workout in, this is truly very sad, what they are trying to do. When the league starts we will not even get to touch the basketball courts due to the lifetime league, the gym is no different than fitness connection, the gym had some prestige to it, because everyone was accommodated for what they wanted and with enough space. When you ask them, why are you doing this, they say its from the CEO, well its public company, we all have voiced our opinion on it, I think the customer/Client we deserve our opinion to be heard, even the pickle ball players are disappointed, they are like that is not fair to the basketball guys at all, therefore they are getting a one star. They have bugs in the showers, half of the stuff is not working. It takes two to three months for fixing there gym equipment, the place is going down hill. The way Charlotte is growing, it will be only matter of time when another gym opens up which bigger and better they will lose their customer base quick. This is not fair, we are paying money for the services we want, not to go by your guys rules, might as well take away the bathrooms because they are dirty pee stains all over the floor. Not enough towels, like what are these people thinking. Lets take away the tennis courts and see how they react to it ? You pay money for the services that were provided not to be taken away from us. The general manger is not doing his or her job properly, because if he or she was doing the job properly, they would have the place in mint condition, weights are all over the place, Alpha squat rack are taken from certain time but its alway empty. Like I mentioned before, we paid money for the services that were provided not to be taken away from us. Please do better...
Read moreAlthough a little pricey, this executive lifetime gym is amazing. You really do get what you pay for here. For starters the locker rooms alone are very impressive. Plenty of space and lockers that lock with a code so you don't need to bring your own lock, beautiful showers with amazing water pressure and different shower heads to choose from, anything you could need like makeup removing towelettes, razors, lotion, good quality shampoo/conditioner/body wash, deoderant, hair spray, and mouth wash just to name a few. There are plenty of blowdryers, mirrors, and counter space for everyone to use without having to wait. The steam rooms and jacuzzi that are accessible from the locker rooms are a great way to relax after a hard work out. The indoor tennis courts are beautifully set up. They also have a Cafe and even a draft beer bar. There are both indoor and out door pools and plenty of work out classes to choose from. The yoga room gives off a feeling of zen and did I mention there is both a hair salon, nail salon, and a massage center inside the building? The inside basketball court is large and there is a wide range of work out equipment and weights to choose from. They even have 2 Jacob's ladders which is something I have been looking for in other gyms but unable to find until I came here. Every cardio machine has a tv screen built into it with all the popular channels so you can watch whatever you want while working out. Unlike other gyms where you have to squint and strain your eyes to watch the community tvs hanging up high. There are plenty of comfortable couches and seating all through out the entire facility. You could literally spend your entire day at this place! My fiance got a membership here a couple months ago and I have been very hesitant to get a family membership due to the higher price, but after my experience yesterday I have decided to break and go ahead with a family membership! This gym is next level and I 100% recommend you come...
