In my view, the Dewitt mall is the beating heart of Ithaca when it comes to the holiday seasons. The crew was out front putting up Holiday lights around the front entrance when I visited there earlier today. The building superintendent Jack waved a friendly hello as I walked by. Inside, the Ithaca guitar shop had music, smells from Moosewood and the sound of children laughing at the Cats Pajamas Toy Store (go and spend some time and money there-even if you don’t have kids or a reason to), Buffalo Street Books, GreenStar ~ just a few of the many places within. I first tasted some of my favorites at Moosewood, including Bellwether Liberty Spy. On my two recent visits, there was only one cider selection on the menu. It was New York grown, but not strictly local. It was very sour and had no apple flavor. I ordered it once, but never again. There are some great ciders made right in Ithaca.
