The seats were nice. I don't think they could recline in theater 19. I didn't check fully, but even if they couldn't, they're super comfortable. I've been in some in the same theater that could recline, but I know it was hard to find the button, and honestly I wasn't looking for it that hard...probably 3 seconds tops. The seats were comfortable anyway. Wide too, but not wide enough to pull your knees up next to you. (Long sitting makes me like to reposition) I had a great experience. It was a double feature, so I was in there for a while. Double features don't show movie previews...so we get a blank screen for the time it would have shown previews. Then when it's time to switch movies, we get another 10 minutes of blank screen no sound.
The seats were assigned. We got to pick our seats while getting the tickets.
The food was...expensive haha. Vitamin water (regular size) is $5. Glad I ate b4 & didn't need to buy snacks, I was just thirsty.
I got my ticket from Google emailing me a coupon & my ticket was $5 but using it in the Atom app. lucky me!!! I went to see deadpool 1 & 2 & got a cute little action figure while I showed my ticket.
I expected the theater to be cold, but it wasn't. I didn't drive, but there's a parking place for if you do. It's metered parking since it's New Roc City. I took the bus, which lets off pretty close to the area.
I used to hang out at New Roc City as a child. There are plenty of places to go while you wait, or after you finish your movie. There's even an Apple Bees.
The theater was clean, and at the front, they had like 5 garbage bins lined up next to each other.
The seats started out elevated, you had to go up the stairs to get to your seat even in the first row (though I did see a stock market "not an exit, elevator", so I assume the first row is able to be used by wheelchairs, plus the whole front down at the bottom...though it's kind of low. I honestly don't know if that theater is really wheelchair accessible since I didn't look. It was already kind of dark when I went in, but the letters by the stairs were lit up. The numbers on the chairs for your seat were on the right armrest, not the left one, so be careful to look at the correct one so you're not in the wrong seat.) I didn't feel like I could be blocked by someone's head. It was pretty empty in there though. I had my head on my armrest sometimes and still could see. (No one was next to me, but I had people in front of me)
It was one of the better movie theaters. Nice big screen, clean, good quiet crowd (except when we just had to laugh because the movie was so funny) but overall a great experience. If you have the money š°šµšøš²š¶ have at it with the snacks. The line can get long, but I happened to go when our movie was about to start, so not so bad..and it was 4pm, so not quite rush time.
The bathrooms were clean except that they didn't flush properly. 3 toilets there had paper from the previous users... And I didn't use a lot of tissue and it still left back some. It's an automatic flusher, so I had to do some waves to get it to flush again (there's a button, but I usually use a tissue, and if I'm trying to get tissue to go down, I probably shouldn't add extra tissue) but still, not counting toilets that are weak flushers, it was a nice clean bathroom. Automatic water and hand dryers etc. I went between the double feature movies, so no line, but still, lots of stalls and that's not the only restroom in there. There are a few set up close to the theaters...the one by theater 19 is just a little secluded from the others, so it's never going to get as crowded.
I think I only take off a star because of the price of their items...especially since I could buy the same drink for less than half the price outside. But the experience overall was great AND I'm not forced to buy it, PLUS my ticket was greatly discounted. The normal price of that double feature was like $27... So I could totally afford to splurge on the drink.
Attached is a picture of my little figurine I got for free...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will preface this by saying I am a big movie fan, and my optimal movie-going experience may be a little more intense than the average viewer. That being said, I reluctantly have visited this theater in the past when movies Iāve wanted to see were sold out at other theaters or when I wanted to see a movie in IMAX and didnāt feel like going into Manhattan. This is despite reading reviews about there being mice in the theater. I figured those reviews were all from a few years ago, and hopefully, theyāve taken care of the issue. While thankfully I have seen no mice, I havenāt been impressed either. The seats in the IMAX theater were in rough shape, and their concession stand offerings were nothing special. They have the typical popcorn, candy, and, frozen fare, I bet, (e.g. chicken tenders, pizza, etc.). Plus, they only serve Pepsi products; Iām a Coke fan. They donāt even have Cherry Pepsi, which in this wondrous age of Coke Freestyle machines with which you can create a multitude of unique flavors is very disappointing. This all being said, the biggest issue Iāve had at this theater has been the wait at the concession stand. I became aware of this when my girlfriend and I saw āWolverine and Deadpoolā here. The lines were crazy, and it took a long time to get our food. I wonāt speculate on why this is, but I did notice the workers having to travel here and there to gather the few items we ordered (popcorn, soda, and candy). It visually seemed very inefficient. In any case, we barely made it into the theater in time to watch the trailers, which I actually enjoy. Itās with this experience in mind that I recently showed up extra early to see āGladiator 2ā a day after Thanksgiving. After waiting in line just to scan my ticket, I could see that the concession line was worse than the last time! Instead of being a series of separate, long lines, it was a single, extra-long, twisting, and turning line, guided by metal stanchions (see photo). My girlfriend, who thought I was crazy for showing up as early as I did, eventually joined me in line after I had moved up maybe twenty or thirty feet in 30 minutes. As we watched others order from the concession stand on the theaterās mobile app and jump to the also fairly long mobile pick-up line, we contemplated our options, and I got angrier. I had no confidence that the mobile process was going to be any faster. I doubted a different, more efficient team was handling those orders, so we just waited, reconciling that weād miss the trailers to give ourselves additional time. After moving maybe another thirty feet, we decided we needed to head into the theater empty-handed to actually see the movie. We went in, found the number for one of our seats, which was F7, and the next seat was F10! Yes, the one seat was labeled 7, and the next one was labeled 10! For the record, this is in theater 3, so beware. We went BACK to the lobby to customer service and let them know the issue. I mean, this has to be a problem most nights, right?! The lack of urgency on the face of the person behind the desk and the almost hour-long wait in the concession line drove us to decide to cut our losses and request a refund. We were granted one minus the āconvenienceā fees and left having wasted time, money (āconvenienceā fees and parking fees), and not having seen a movie. It doesnāt have to be this hard to see a movie; or not see one. There are other theaters where you can quickly and easily park for free, walk right to your seat, order good food right from that same seat, and actually get to watch a movie. The Alamo Drafthouse and LOOK Cinemas offer this movie-going experience nearby for a lower ticket price. Thereās no reason to go to this theater, and if you want to see a movie in IMAX, go into Manhattan to the AMC Lincoln Square, the largest IMAX theater in the country. Never again will I go to the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile I know that a holiday weekend creates a busy environment at the movies, tonightās experience was inexcusable. We were to see Wicked in the IMAX theater. The line for concessions was ridiculously long. I got my kids set up with a friend in the seats, though that was no easy task since my friend has a cane. There is no clear signage as to how to access seats other than climbing 40 stairs. It took a long time and it was very exhausting for her. They do so handicap seats so there must be an elevator, but who knows how to access it!
In any case, my eldest daughter and I stopped in the restroom on the way to the concession stand. It was disgusting. There was urine all over the floor. Previous patrons had taken the time to unroll a bunch of toilet paper to help absorb it. There was a worker in there getting ready to put in new large rolls of toilet paper. I was just glad it was going to be serviced, but it never shouldāve gotten to that point. Then we went to wait in an excruciatingly long line. I knew it was going to be busy this weekend, but I never couldāve imagined that I wouldāve missed the full first hour of the movie after waiting approximately 80 minutes in line. Each register with staffed, but there was no one backing them up to get things ready. It was really ridiculous.
Watching the movie itself was fine, though it would be nice if there were recliner seats in the IMAX theater. I shouldāve read more closely at the conclusion of the movie after the credits have ended in, we were plunged into darkness. Please remember that my friend walks with a cane. It was very scary. Seeing her go down the stairs that were only illuminated by the emergency exit lights. Partway down to the landing the lights came up, thankfully.
On the way out, we stopped at the restroom. I was horrified to see that not only was it not cleaned, it was now far worse. Truly disgusting conditions!
I tried to mention it to the customer service desk, but there was a long line, Iām sure you can imagine why after the experience that I have just described. I did speak to what looked like a manager, who was checking people in, he made it clear that he couldnāt even be bothered to listen. It was going in one ear and out the other as we left at 10:40 PM. There appeared to still be a 45 minute wait for concessions.
Admittedly, it has been a while since I was at New Roc City to see a movie. It will be a very long time before I could consider going back. I will have to look at other peopleās reviews and see if the situation is looking up. I cannot endure what I did this evening ever again.
Wicked was great! Sadly, the...
