Venchi Chocolate & Gelato Westchester — Attraction in City of White Plains

I visited twice recently. The first time was great — customer service was very friendly, attentive and informative. The product itself, a cremino gelato shake, was very lackluster. It mostly tasted like milk with some syrup on the bottom… not sure if that’s what it’s suppose to taste like, but I did have more of a creamier expectation.

The second time, I came in initially wanting a latte. I changed my mind when they said they don’t do iced lattes, so I asked if I could have the nougatine coffee instead. The woman told me she had never heard of that before when it was clearly on the menu. I was a little confused because… I assumed that employees would be knowledgeable. She had to go to the back to ask for some assistance and offered an espresso with a chocolate instead. I said sure because I just needed some sort of coffee in my system first thing in the morning for work. However, she rang me up for the nougatine drink even though I received espresso. The chocolate wasn’t even nougatine either, at the very least. Customer service could’ve been better and the espresso was also lackluster — definitely not worth $7. Not that great. I really want to like this place. I have tried it 3 times. The first time was average, I just got a simple gelato. Not bad, nothing special at all. The second time I got a one of the coffee drinks. It was drinkable, but not great as I would have expected. The third time, I ordered an affagato (which I usually love.) This should have vanilla ice cream and espresso. Simple. After paying and waiting 25 minutes, They told me they didn't have vanilla and that i needed to pick another flavor (but that's not what i ordered and already paid for). I did because i didn't want to make a scene, but it was so bad I threw it out. It wasn't what I ordered nor what I wanted I and wasted $17 on the order. It is pricy for what you get and I expect better for that. The service is also extremely slow and unaccommodating. There were 2 people in front of me and it took 25 minutes for them to help them and then get to me. If I had not already paid, I would have left (they ring you up and then make you wait). I was first introduced to Venchi by my best friend’s husband, who is from Italy. We were in downtown NYC @ Eataly, and he suggested I buy the Venchi Cremino Bar. WOW. Two weeks later I see that a Venchi storefront is opening in the Westchester Mall. I ran, not walked, to the store and I was immediately taken in by the beautiful design and layout of the place. Wall to wall decadent Italian chocolates, with homemade gelato and other incredible treats as well. I was able to sample some of the gelato before making a final decision (I chose the Cremino gelato and the Tiramisu gelato). But the best was when my gelato cup was placed under an Italian chocolate fountain so the cup could be lined with this rich, velvety chocolate and chopped hazelnuts, and the gelato was topped with a solid milk chocolate disc. A truly unique and lovely experience which will have your tastebuds thanking you for making a stop here. The owner is incredibly kind and graceful and does not push you to buy, rather he has a genuine passion for Venchi Chocolate and is excited to help you experience what it is to appreciate, savor and enjoy good chocolate. ...
