I recently visited the Grandview salon for a gel nail manicure and stone nail service on my natural nails with Ayana. Unfortunately, my first time experience has not been positive.
I arrived to the salon about 15 minutes early for my 12:30 appointment, but came into the salon about 7 minutes early. Ayana was late by 12-13 minutes. Because of that, she was delayed getting to my service as she needed to set up her workspace.
When she called me over/came to get me, she did not apologize for her tardiness. I brushed it aside because we’re human and it happens. I thought it may not affect her work on my nails. As I sat down, I asked how long it may take because I had a date out of town that afternoon in Cincinnati.
During my service, her next appointment arrived. She clearly became very upset having to wait through mine -I think this may have affected her work. While putting my rhinestones/gems on, I questioned whether they would stay on and how long. She said, “I’m using a special bond, so they should stay on as long as the gel polish.”
While still working on my fingers, her next appointment went to the counter and complained, I believe two or three times. The gentleman working the counter offered her a discount and said it’d be reflected at the end of her service.
My request was for four fully blinged out nails, but because the person complained, Ayana asked if my thumbs could be partially done (you may check the pictures she took of my nails to verify). I acquiesced only because I needed to head out of town and had been there for over two hours at that point.
Directly after leaving my appointment, I saw (as I was getting onto the freeway) a stone missing. I was disappointed. Before leaving for Cincinnati -forty minutes later, I was missing almost a half of my rhinestones on one finger and the gems on my thumb. I had literally only brushed my teeth -nothing vigorous or anything to make them fall off. By my party on Saturday, my nails were even worse. The gel on my pointer finger has started lifting and my thumb chipping.
I’m truly disappointed in the service I received and my treatment after. Aka: I called on Friday as I was driving to Cincinnati and spoke with Gabby who did not allow me to speak with a manager and placed me on hold a couple of times to only tell me that she would reschedule my appointment. I called back today and after placing me on about a five minute hold, she came back to tell me about this email address only. She then canceled my appointment after I said I didn’t really want to come in but I did not cancel it. She took it upon herself to do so. I’m truly disappointed in the salon. I want my $79.95 back -I was promised nails that would last two to three weeks and they didn’t last...
Read moreI had a basic haircut appointment with Blu Botts. I was very nervous as I have curly hair and haven’t had good experiences with hairdressers in the past (I mentioned to them over instagram that I have curly hair and they did not make any objections before I booked, either), but I was reassured that they knew how to cut my hair. I asked for a lot of layers, but they basically only cut my bangs and the ends of my hair, despite me showing them pictures of the kind of haircut I wanted. I felt patronized by them during the appointment. At some point we discussed color, and they said that I probably wouldn’t be able to afford their prices, so I should probably come back when I have more money. They had no reason to assume that I couldn’t afford their prices. Their pricing, while not cheap, is absolutely fair, but it is not their place to declare whether or not I can afford something. They didn’t seem enthusiastic at all to work with me. I was upfront with them (over instagram and in person) that I have a history of dying my hair with black box dye, which would make it difficult and expensive to work with, but they didn’t have to make a personal dig at me to get the point across. I was stressed out basically the entire time I was in the chair, partially because of my own hairdresser anxiety, and partially because the way they spoke to me was so backhanded. They said they didn’t put many layers in my hair so I wasn’t “shocked by the change in my appearance.” (Why would I go to a hairdresser if not to change my appearance? I showed them pictures of how I wanted my hair to look, and they did not achieve it at all.) I left with limp, frizzy curls that looked basically exactly the same as when I came in (except for the bangs, which, to be fair, do look...
Read moreMy friend and I booked nail appointments 2 weeks in advance for her birthday. On the day of the appointment my friend received a text that her manicurist had a family emergency and that her appointment would need to be rescheduled. They offered us another slot earlier the same day, but when my friend texted to confirm that was ok, she was informed the slot had been filled by someone scheduling online. I feel the professional response would have been to reach out to the last-minute booker and tell them the spot had been promised already, but instead we were told the situation was “beyond their control,” and that no other appointments were available. During this whole ordeal, I was never contacted directly about my separate booking, which was also affected. Thankfully we were able to get same-day appointments at another business. I was very turned off by this staff encounter and will not be scheduling with them again.
Edit: now the business is lying in review responses. Family emergencies (including deaths) cannot be avoided, but their handling of the situation was very unprofessional. Their response to this review makes me very glad I did not spend my money there. There were 17 minutes between their text and my friend’s response. A phone call from the business would have been the most professional way for them to have resolved this issue, and would have prevented delay. We were never offered discounts, and in fact I still have not personally been in touch with the business. I left a voicemail and my call was not returned (see my call screenshot, which was certainly not long enough to be offered “multiple discounts”). My friend was offered to reschedule at another date (via text, still no phone contact), but never...
