Shadowbox Live — Attraction in Columbus

Upon arriving, we were greeted and ushered in by the actors who were in the performance that evening, we had no clue! On the way to our table, (it is exclusively table seating) led through the halls and corridors, we were pleased to view the original art and photography exhibit themed with the show that evening, "No Return". The gracious server was also one of the performers and singers in the cast and soon we were informed that the entire cast and musicians and dancers were the chefs, servers, bartenders, busboys, etc. , who would soon leave the audience area to prepare for the performance! This was an added feature unanticipated but ever so welcome.

The performers; actors, singers and dancers took the stage after a compelling introduction by the evening's hostess (also in the cast?) Ultimately, the whole experience was fascinating. The challenging task of setting such a dark story in a musical was embellished craftily with projected graphics aiding the narrative of the not well known story behind the tragic lives and actions of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker.

The amazing band was on stage throughout and provided unique musical arrangements for the very unusual repertoire of music which opened with a mysterious version of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World". This dark opening sung with wistful sarcasm set the mood for the entire show.

We are not fans of gun violence in any entertainment media and trust that someday TV and Film in general will turn away from relying on violence to thrill audiences. Here, this theatrical production looked into the back story of just how this infamous couple turned to violence for their fate. The take-away for myself was that we never now what influences criminal violence until we look deeper and keep faith that we can be guided to have better outcomes for those who are challenged by hardship and lack. I look forward to experiencing a brighter, lighter production from this stunning group of writers, actors, singers, musicians, directors...oh yes, did I mention the food...

A Memorable and Delightful Experience for All Ages

My recent visit to this establishment was nothing short of extraordinary. I had the joy of bringing my three grandchildren, ages 12, 10, and 8, and we all had an absolutely wonderful time. From the moment we entered, the atmosphere was welcoming and vibrant, setting the tone for an unforgettable outing.

The food was truly 5-star—every dish was prepared to perfection and presented beautifully. The service was equally remarkable. Every server greeted us with warm, genuine smiles and demonstrated exceptional attentiveness throughout our visit. Their energy and positivity were infectious, adding to the overall enjoyment of the experience.

My 8-year-old particularly loved creating with napkins and straws, showing that this place caters not just to appetites but also to creativity and fun for young guests. Watching the children engage and delight in the environment warmed my heart.

It had been a long time since I had such a meaningful outing with my grandchildren, and this visit reminded me of the joy of shared moments. I was touched by how family-friendly the staff and ambiance were, despite a few opinions from other guests about the presence of children. I deeply appreciate how inclusive the environment felt—families deserve spaces like this where they can create lasting memories.

I cannot thank the team enough for their outstanding hospitality. This is a place I will return to, both with family and as a personal getaway spot. Had an unforgettable afternoon at Shadowbox Live watching Freak Show! From start to finish, everything was absolutely amazing. The show was beyond spectacular—the talent of the band and performers is out of this world, and the choreography and acoustics made the entire experience come to life in a way that no other theater around here can match.

The food was also incredible! We tried the honey bacon pimento dip, and it was absolutely delicious. One tip—be sure to arrive a little early if you plan on ordering food, as the kitchen shuts down when the show starts. You can still order right up until showtime, but your food will come out during intermission.

What truly sets this place apart is how unique the performances are. They interact with the audience in such a personal, fun way that makes you feel like you're part of the show. The level of talent on stage is just unreal, from the stunning vocals to the mind-blowing musicianship of the guitar players and drummer. And the whole production is so well choreographed, it’s clear the performers put their heart and soul into every single moment.

There’s simply no comparison to anything else in the area. No other theater does it like they do—everything from the original shows to the world-class performers and the seamless blend of music, drama, and dance. It’s truly a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else.
