My partner and I had taken a Megabus from Cincinnati to Columbus on Sunday morning. We arrived at the hotel around 10:30 a.m. and fortunately, they had a ready room. I had requested an early check-in but wasn't expecting anything that early as they were sold out the prior evening and check out on Sundays is not until 3:00 p.m.. The lobby of this Westin was absolutely stunning! Gabby was very pleasant and welcoming at check in and offered us a complimentary upgrade to a king size bed for my birthday. (Thanks, Gabby!) We wanted some information on the surrounding area and everyone was very knowledgeable, provided great suggestions, and answered all of our questions. We ended up going down the street for lunch at deNOVO Cafe which is a cute little rustic European-American style bistro with fair prices. The hotel room itself was small, and our view (or lack thereof) was one of an office building directly across the street. I was also a bit disappointed that the hotel did not have a pool or a hot-tub. This is ok, though, because we were there for a concert anyway and didn't spend much time in the room. The bathroom was also small, but very professionally cleaned and appropriately stocked with all the standard toiletries. Kudos to housekeeping! I did not have the chance to eat any F&B so I can't speak to that aspect of the hotel. On Monday, the staff granted us a complimentary late check out of 2 p.m. which was wonderful as our bus was not scheduled to depart downtown until 7 p.m. that evening. (Thank you so much, again!) They held our bags until we returned for the bus and we spent the afternoon in the Short North Arts District of town. We took advantage of the public bike rental system and rode 3.5 miles up High Street. Columbus is a very bike friendly town! We ventured into a quaint vintage store called Flower Power. Expensive prices, but great selection. We rounded out the day spending happy hour at Bodega, with 47 beers on tap and all of them half price (and delicious grilled cheese for only $1 to top it off)!!! The best part of our stay was Kristen at the front desk who was absolutely wonderful! We were in desperate need of hairspray before going out to the concert and as the front office had ran out of their supply, Kristen gave us her own personal supply! She was always wearing a bright, genuine smile, and perfectly exemplified great customer service. Thank you Kristen and everyone at the Westin Columbus for making our short...
Read moreA Fine Westin Hotel ... Excellent Grand Old 1890s facility with great overall service (everyone was wonderful). Great bed and shower, and the room was cozy comfortable. Rooms however do need some serious attention. Carpet was worn, surfaces in the room were dusty when I arrived, and the maid service was very poor thru a 5 night stay (although all maid staff were kind and very responsive when I called). Bathrobe and plush towels are a plus, but a smelly shower curtain ruined the experience. No toilet tissue in room after 1st day, had to call twice (ugh). Remote control did not work. Fridge was warm and of no use. SPG members like me get preferred rooms that are larger. Nice! Others likely to get the 1898 room size that is smaller than what you will experience in most newer hotels. Your saddle and spurs will fit in the room OK, as long as you stow everything efficiently and prepare to move around in some tight space. High-end iPod radio clock did not work well and had sticky icky grime all over it. Never could set the clock time right, and about the third night the clock light went out. I did not know what time it was. It was in need of replacement. Thank goodness for the prompt and efficient 6 am morning wake up calls.
Wall in bathroom had water spots from guests. Glass on the artwork and large exterior windows were filthy and in need of some simple Windex. Restaurant facility at hotel was above average and wait staff very good. Breakfast at the hotel was outstanding (some will find it pricy...but expect that at a good hotel like Westin) Thurber's Bar was great. Tuesday evening free hor d'oeuvres, wine and beer was a real plus!! Stuffed mushrooms and little fried burrito sticks were yummy. Variety of free beer and wine was unexpected. Basically a free meal. Nice job, Chef! Overall, good spot in Columbus, not too far from some very decent restaurants (be sure to try Schmidt's German Restaurant and talk to the locals to find other), and all the staff at this hotel were extremely nice.
Overall good. But because of the room condition, it simply did not live up to the full 4 star hotel quality/experience I have come to expect at Westin. Improved room prep and attention to room detail at this facility would help. Still...I will probably return if I come to Columbus again....but will call first to make sure they clean my room and prepare properly before I...
Read moreI recently stayed at the hotel and put my car in storage using the LAZ valet company. I noticed leaving the hotel that my car was covered in thousands of small droplets of some substance, I thought it might be ash or just dust from construction. After stopping at a service station during cleaning my windows, I noticed that those specs were some sort of paint, and would not come off unless SCRAPED off of my windshield. I called the Westin today and inquired about what had happened to my car during storage, and was told by the front desk that there was paint striping going on in the lot WHILE my car was being stored there. This has devalued my vehicle a significant amount (2000-3000 dollars), there is a canvas top COVERED in small droplets of paint released during spraying which while floating around in the air during striping now are STUCK to my vehicle and all other portions of my vehicle, the glass and mirrors (DANGEROUS AS IT REDUCES VISIBILITY, WHY WOULD YOU EVER JEPORDIZE THE SAFETY OF YOUR PATRONS IN THIS MANNER. REPREHENSIBLE.). A car wash WILL NOT REMOVE PAINT DESIGNED TO STICK TO ASPHAULT AND CONCRETE. I called, and was told they don't have the number for the office for LAZ Valet Parking, and also told that I couldn't be given a number for a manager because it's their "personal number". I will be posting pictures of the literal THOUSANDS of paint splatter now completely stuck to my car's finish which will require a VERY EXPENSIVE EXTENSIVE DETAIL, LEAVING ME WITHOUT MY CAR UNTIL IT'S FINISHED. No mention of a refund over the phone and honestly the front desk didn't seem very concerned about my rather poor experience and circumstance. I await to hear back from someone from LAZ parking. I will continue to update this review until there is any degree of satisfaction about the awful irresponsible way in which my car was stored. A real parking company would have found another location to keep these cars, and not risked the finish of their patrons automobiles and safety of their patrons potentially driving in the dark and limiting their visibility at night. I do really appreciate the honestly of the front desk letting me know there was paint striping going on, as it's apparent what the...
